RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Best Picture Nominee Argo and Sinister

I saw "Argo" on the shelves at Best Buy on Friday, and was wondering why I couldn't remember when it came out. I'll probably watch it again, but it wasn't a film that will stand the test of time. I'll definitely check out "Sinister".

I've always preferred the silent "Thief of Baghdad" to the Sabu version. The art direction is very impressive for its era. And kids who grew up on "Monsters Inc", give "Monster Squad" a chance. It's a lot of fun.

Five discs for Monsters, Inc.? Ok, sure.

Argo is a movie, I believe, that is destined for multiple replays on TMC and the like, so I'll give it a pass even though it was one of the year's best. On the Waterfront is my second favorite Brando film, the first being Apocalypse Now, and its release on Blu-ray is a real treat.

Argo is my must buy of the week! I'm hearing nothing but incredible things about it. Ben Affleck has grown incredibly well as a filmmaker. I'm not a big horror fan so I doubt I'll be seeing Sinister anytime soon. Anna Karenina may be worth a rent and Fun Size most definitely will not be. I hope Argo wins at the Oscars next week!!

I missed Argo in theaters, I'm picking this movie to win at the Oscars Sunday.

I certainly have to rent Top Gun instead of 3-D. R.I.P Tony Scott!

I don't wanna buy Monsters Inc. this week, but I'm planning it soon for my birthday.

I don't know who's Victoria Justice, but she's a Miranda Cosgrove clone. Fun Size is not funny and not recommended for me.

I'm surprised that Ryan didn't include UNDEFEATED, which won the 2011 Academy Award for Best Documentary about this high school football team in Manassas, Tennessee and their couch named Courtney. Pretty good and worth watching, yet it never really grabbed me emotionally, yet then again I'm a cynical asshole when it comes to football.

I'm rooting for ARGO all the way for Best Picture: Affleck's third directorial effort is so razor-sharp, eye-popping even, in terms of its 1979-1980 production design and period detail alone (never mind its amazing entertainment value), it's hard to question how it presents this historical event, declassified during the Clinton administration. Affleck was certainly denied a Director's nod, but then again most us know that by now; however, Affleck is one of the producers so he still has a shot at winning the Best Picture prize, and he certainly has a lot of momentum going in on the director's snub and international awards. Something tells me Ang Lee is going to get Best Director for LIFE OF PI, with ARGO getting Best Picture, the first time since 1989 when Oliver Stone and DRIVING MISS DAISY won.

Horror has never been a favorite genre, yet for some reason SINISTER did creep me out, considering the demon with the funny name is played by the lead singer of SlipKnot (no joke!) Still, Ethan Hawke is exceptional as a real asshole and it blows away all the horror efforts of the previous year, including THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, which I liked but didn't love as many others did. The irony of me being frightened by SINISTER is that the screenwriter said he was inspired by a nightmare after watching THE RING: the funniest "horror" movie I've ever seen in my life.

I'm going to pass on both FUN SIZE (not the target audience) and ANNA KARENINA: truth is I would rather read Leo Tolstoy's novel than go into that movie cold. ON THE WATERFRONT is an absolute must-buy and as for TOP GUN 3D...ugh! RIP Tony Scott, but it doesn't erase the fact that TOP GUN is the McDonald's version of AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, complete with the lead characters sharing the same first two letters of their last name (MA), having serious daddy issues they most overcome, they both ride motorcycles, their intimate relationships with women, and the best friend dying (shit, spoilers, sorry!). The only two reasons why TOP GUN became a megahit: Tom Cruise's smile and Diet Pepsi.

Argo was pretty good but jesus best picture? Seriously? No really brilliant performances (mind you I LOVED Arkin and Goodman), witty enough script but not mind blowing.. Hollywood sucks. Bout time for a new Cohen Bros flick eh?

Sinister should be fun. I may see Karenina due to my respect for Tolstoy, oh and uh yeah Knightly.. I haven't seen Monsters Inc or On the Waterfront but they've jumped up my lists.

Also just want to throw this out there, is it just me or did Affleck pop a handful of valium before every shoot in his best movies (Argo, The Town, Changing Lanes)? Except for Dazed and Confused, of course. Speaking of which, I would LOVE to see if Linklater could pull off a sequel following O'Banyon, Pink Floyd and Wiley Wiggins through the 80s

Argo was imo outstanding! Ben got screwed for sure by the Academy!!! Yes, replay value isn't great, but I want it for the bonus features which I hope don't suck! Ben has been good so far on this!! Need to check out "Sinister" for sure!!!!
