John Singleton Directing A-Team Movie?
Does he pity the fool?
Break those Chevy Astro 7 vans, mohawks, and Members Only jackets out of mothballs -- the A-Team movie may have found itself a director!
According to IESB, 20th Century Fox has set its sights on John Singleton to direct the big-screen adaptation of the NBC series. The original A-Team, which ran for five seasons in the '80s, centered on a group of Vietnam vets who ran around doing good deeds while on the run for "a crime they didn't commit" -- a premise the film will update by making the team's members veterans of the Gulf War.
The A-Team movie has been in production for years -- at one point, it was said to be on target for a 2002 release, and the studio was rumored to be pursuing Ving Rhames, Jim Carrey, Christian Bale, and Mel Gibson to round out the cast. (Moral of the story: take A-Team rumors with a big ol' grain of salt.)
If Singleton really does wind up signing onto the project, it could signal that Fox has decided to make the adaptation more of a straight-ahead action film, rather than an update on the series' over-the-top action comedy. Either way, you know what this report means -- start naming your dream Team cast!

on Dec 11 2007 07:19 AM OH MY GOD!!!! Ive been talking about this for years! In fact, it may have even been me that started those rumours in 2002 for casting suggestions (except christian bale)WTF? Jim Carrey = Mad Murdoch. Mel Gibson = Hannible Smith. Ving Rhames/or Mr T himself(he still got it!) = BA Brad Pit/Owen Wilson = Faceman Bring on the A-TEAM ******* This is one TV to movie that i would love to see. (Reply to this) |

on Dec 11 2007 07:25 AM Has Hollywood learned nothing from "Bewitched," "The Dukes of Hazzard" or "My Favorite Martian?" TV to Silver Screen adaptations rarely work (I can count the ones that have on one hand), even when they are adapted from quality shows. 'The A-Team' was hardly "quality" television and I doubt the movie will be, either. Stop cannabalizing old TV shows and old movies, There are plenty of screenwriters with new, original ideas out there. (Reply to this) |

Bring on the A TEAM! yes it will most likely suck, especially if it either takes itself too seriously or gets miscast. All it takes is a good brain and some imagination and this could rock. on Dec 11 2007 08:38 AM Its John Singleton, who does do a pretty good job of replicating 70s and 80s-style action in his movies. Four Brothers was pretty fun and I loved Shaft (first time I got to see what a psycho Christian Bale could be.) Miami Vice probably would have rocked if he'd taken the helm and not Michael 'thanks for Heat but you completely forgot the point of your own TV show' Mann. on Dec 11 2007 08:51 AM i hope this is as good as Honeymooners the movie!! oh wait...nevermind. the clooney/pitt/gibson/hopkins ideas are funny...how 'bout humphrey bogart? or dr. phil? singleton isn't really a fan of pretty boy white people, and he's not exactly a fan of the pale anyway. at least thats what i get from every interview i've read 'bout the guy. so if this isn't an all black cast, there's no way those guys listed would be in it. Bale is a maybe because he was in Shaft, Wahlberg is probably a shoe in, and i'm guessing Tyrese as well. i don't see this being anything like what you people want though...so, good luck with that. You guys are either on crack or have never watched the show Ice Cube is ***** and should never appear in a movie again, Whitaker is good.. but a BA Baracus he certainly is not.. how old is the guy anyways??? I'd start laughing at his crossed eyes and huge belly rather than being afraid he would kick my as$ Ving Rhames has the look and the attitude, Michael Clark Duncan has no personality And Russel Crowe as Murdoch?? Seriously??? Jim Carrey would nail it so perfectly! But really, most of these guys would be too old to be recent gulf war vets.. except for whoever takes the role of Hannibal, but I think even Hopkins would be waaay too old for someone recently being out in the field Expect the cast to be young.. on Dec 11 2007 12:47 PM I don't if any of you know this, but Singleton recently killed someone with his vehicle in an unfortunate accident. Although this movie may not be worth a crap, it's nice to see a talented director get some work. "Boyz N' the Hood" was magnificent. "Rosewood" is quite the overlooked western. (Reply to this) |
