The Orange British Academy Film awards took place at London's Royal Opera House tonight, and RT was there to see the winners and losers as they were announced.

The winners in full:

I can't believe that Atonement keeps winning all of these awards, and yet a film like Gone Baby Gone doesn't even get recognized.

Gone Baby Gone hasn't been released in the UK so it was ineligible for the BAFTAs. But it has been neglected in plenty of other ceremonies...

She was nominated, but Juno only came out on Friday in the UK so there's a chance it didn't have the recognition necessary to nab her the award over the dude who starred in the summer's big blockbuster and is about to star in an Indy film.

Figures La Vie En Rose and Atonement sweep the awards. I'm sure they're both good movies, but they're very artsy choices and you look sophisticated if you vote for them. Because seriously, Atonement over Zodiac/There Will Be Blood/No Country for Old Men/The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford/Gone Baby Gone/Michael Clayton/virtually any good movie that came out this year? Is it that good? Pretty much everyone who's seen There Will Be Blood/No Country for Old Men will tell you that they stand head and shoulders above the competition, and the other choices aren't half-bad either.

I saw Atonement and I thought it was a lot better than Clayton, but I think Clayton is a little over rated. I don't think Atonement was better than No Country or Blood though and I'm actually puzzled as to how the lady from M.C. took home best supporting actress over Blanchet, or even that little girl from Atonement. She was solid, but I wasn't blown away by her performance.

Atonement was a great movie though the movies that Admiral Snowstorm mentioned are even better (except for Michael Clayton which I found very disappointing and I haven't seen There Will Be Blood). The Assassination of Jesse James, Gone Baby Gone and Zodiac all deserve more recognition.

How could they choose "The Golden Compass"'s crappy special effects over "Transformers". Also, for giving "Norbit" a nomination and not giving one to "Zodiac" leads me to believe that the Acadamy is run my ****ing morons.

well when you have two clear contenders (there will be blood and no country) then vote splitting is an option. my guess is that atonement (which i think is a very good movie by the way) stole the award because the two favorites splitted the votes (hope my english is any good).

atonement and la vie en rose aren't artsy, there just very good movies. the diving bell or 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days also didn't got nominated. there are a lot of good international movies so i don't see why they couldn't do a best movie cat. with foreign and domestic(english) movies.

Remember there's always interpersonal politics and popularity at work in these industry awards. Tilda Swinton is a highly regarded actress who has struggled for recognition and I think part of her winning was a reward for finally "making it big" after always delivering in small under appreciated films. She was also very good in the role - was it the best performance, maybe not, but it was at least worthy of a nomination . Cate's been well rewarded for her past work. At least they didn't give the award to Ruby Dee for still breathing.

Atonement has it's Britishness going for it with the BAFTAs.

seriously folks, have you seen what english people do when they lose a soccer game (nope, not calling it football). they destroy their own frickin city. imagine if their best picture had gone to an american flick instead of their beloved atonement. the royal opera house would have been torn assunder. so let atonement have its fun... for now. because if that thing eeks out a best picture win come oscar, a la the globes, stuff is gonna go down stateside.
