Critic Review - Washington Post

Intended as a fuzzy family fable, August plays more to the gag reflex than to the heart.

This was the worst movie I have seen in fourteen years. May a bus run you over.

Good critics are not cynics, or they become blinded as did this one. Sure it is contrived.... but it is clearly a FANTASY where all things are contrived. And this movie richly rewards those who simply suspend disbelief and go for the ride.

A movie richly deserving of a splat. I can easily suspend disbelief in the (dis)connectedness of the human condition. I Love music, I Love fantasy -- I really disliked how badly the good premise of this movie was frittered away by subpar writing and directing. Watch this movie only if you are convinced that all "feel-good" movies are wonderful by dint of their mere existence.
