The genre elements are all there: What critically wounds Avatar is Cameron's inability to write better characters.
"Whatever faults Avatar may have -- and there are many -- the movie succeeds in immersing you in a photorealistic, painstakingly detailed world more fully than any science fiction movie before."Sounds more positive to me, RT. Change it!

"You watch the first half of Avatar in a state of blissful rapture, because Cameron has the directorial chops to go along with the special-effects trickery (this is an exceptionally well-edited movie). He doles out the eye-candy gradually, and the thrill of discovery sweeps you along."

"Watching Avatar in any of its incarnations (the 3D version adds considerable depth and dimension to the image, although the glasses start to grow heavy after the two-hour mark) is an undeniably transporting experience -- a real trip, worth taking for anyone who cares about films."Sounds more positive to me, RT. Change it!

"The love story in Avatar -- the element you'd assume would be the most half-baked -- turns out to be the strongest thread running through this epic picture, which constantly enthralls visually and delivers a number of thrills."Sounds more positive to me, RT. Change it!

This definitely isn't rotten. He tells people Avatar "is a trip worth taking." How can that be rotten?
Dec 17 - 05:45 AM
Overall, RT, I would say that this is leaning more positive than negative. Yes, he does complain about the characters, but he ultimately says that Avatar is a trip worth taking, which strikes me as an indication of how this review is more positive than negative.
Dec 17 - 06:04 AM
this review is definitely freshthere are way more positive comments than negative
Dec 17 - 06:17 AM
"An undeniably transporting experience -- a real trip, worth taking for anyone who cares about films"Odd. If the reviewer was meaning for us to take this as a negative review, it sure is hard to tell by reading it.

John S., do you do anything except reload Avatar's Rotten Tomatoes page over and over all day?
Dec 17 - 10:16 AM
well its the holidays he can do whatever he wants with his free time
Dec 17 - 10:43 AM
by the way this is not a rotten reviewRT staff is really going oiut if their way to lower the t meter
Dec 17 - 10:48 AM
ernievzla,In the majority of instances the critics themselves submit the reviews, their scores and whether they are rotten or fresh. So the RT staff is not going out of their way to lower the t-meter.
Dec 17 - 11:34 AM
Metacritic rated this as favorable, a 63. This is the 2nd rotten RT rating that Metacritic rates as favorable (the other being the Village Voice review)
Dec 17 - 12:15 PM
Ahahahahhaha, gotta love the "this is not a negative review" comments. Damn fanboys. The bane of my existence.
Dec 17 - 02:32 PM
Voltan, I think you're going out of your way to bash a film you haven't seen. Kettle = Pot. You might want to calm down and go troll somewhere else, yes?
Dec 17 - 03:20 PM
Voltan is the biggest douchebag
Dec 17 - 04:18 PM
"trip worth taking" = not rotten. It's a recommendation. Doeesn't matter what else he said.
Dec 17 - 04:28 PM
"the characters CRITICALLY wound avatar" = rotten. It's a dis-recommendation. Doeesn't matter what else he said.
Dec 17 - 06:23 PM
I'll pull a John S and quote the reviewer... "What critically wounds Avatar is Cameron's inability to write better characters"in plain english, because you are "it's positive" morons are pretty dumb, the characters CRITICALLY wound avatar. so yes it has positives, but the characters suck. is it that difficult to understand this review?
Dec 17 - 04:01 PM
What the F#@K is the point in writing a review that beats around the bush so much, it's like he can't decide wiether to tell you to go see it or not go see it. There's more positive marks towards the film in this review that tells me he problebly thinks its a good idea to see it...oh wait, I forgot..didn't he say "is an undeniably transporting experience -- a real trip, worth taking for anyone who cares about films." ....???
I saw this film and I can assure you, the characterization did NOT f#@kin' hurt this film, this guy is on crack....
Dec 17 - 11:00 PM

Sorry dude, I disagree
Dec 20 - 11:59 AM
It's not about the characters or the dialogue - it's about the visuals you retard. That's why you get 3D glasses.
