Critic Review - Metro Times (Detroit, MI)

If you ever wondered what a live-action Hayao Miyazaki film would look like, Avatar is a damn good approximation.

Avatar would never reach that status. In fact, Avatar is just plain American bullshit (typical stuff from Hollywood, as everybody can imagine) molded into a piece of 3D shit and then with some love and peace hippie messages on top, as if it wasn't already enough of the joke. The overall sense is good, the start is good, but the ending is horrible. And the animation and the design of the "beings" is completely out of taste. It does NOT compare to Miyazaki, that's what I mean... I rather find it insulting that somebody can compare it to Miyazaki's films.

If you think Miyazaki is any better than Cameron, you are sadly mistaken. I think you need to quit riding Miyazaki's cock and go out and modernize yourself a bit, kiddo.

I don't hate the film as much as Erik V, but a live-action Miyazaki would be much less cliche and much more heart-stoppingly beautiful than this...

I'm not going to insult AVATAR in retort to this sentiment; But the sentiment itself is laughable. There's nothing in AVATAR to summon any comparison to a Miyazaki film. NOTHING alike.

It's like comparing a very unnecessary expensive toy with a legendary kite. You should watch more Hayao Miyazaki's film, you don't have any idea of what are you talking about.
