Suzette (Goldie Hawn) and Vinnie (Susan Sarandon) were groupies in their heyday, partying with the likes of Frank Zappa (who dubs them the Banger Sisters), Jim Morrison, and virtually every other rock star and roadie that passed through Los Angeles. Twenty years later, Suzette is a bartender who finds herself too old to stay in the Los Angeles rock scene. Distraught, she heads to Phoenix in search of her former best friend, picking up neurotic and quirky Harry (Geoffrey Rush) at a gas station along the way. But when Suzette arrives in Phoenix, she is surprised to find that her once wild friend may as well be a different person. Married to a lawyer with political aspirations and the mother of two teenage daughters, Vinnie is now LaVinia, a refined, cultured pillar of the community. With Suzette back in town, LaVinia is confronted with her past and finds that she must make peace with it to fully embrace her true self. Hawn and Sarandon are well cast, and Rush is a scene-stealer as a wounded man who finds new inspiration in Suzette. Writer Bob Dolman makes his directorial debut with THE BANGER SISTERS. [More]

Reviews for The Banger Sisters
more than anything a disappointment, given its strong cast and interesting premise
'The Banger Sisters leaves you with a smile [but]...loses its imaginative bite...when all the ugly loose ends are neatly and unnaturally tied in a Hollywood bow.'
So insipid it may turn even superannuated hippies into raging neocons.
This movie is almost as sex and drugs free as its progenitor, Almost Famous.
There are few more gratifying moments in recent movies than Hawn forthrightly telling Rush, "I'm going to smoke. Endure it," as she plops down into a chair, crosses her legs, and lights up.
It's a shame they couldn't have put Hawn and Sarandon in a better movie than this.
Eva Amurri should have been wearing a sign that read, "My mom got me this job."
A quesy and overhashed films that could have been easily called: Almost Famous 2: Penny Lane's Last Dance
There's a good movie to be made about fifty-something former groupies, but The Banger Sisters is not that movie.
A film not without its flaws, but with a great lead pair of actresses and a smart and fun story, these Sisters have enough sass and verve to make an afternoon or evening with them worth your while.
What we have in The Banger Sisters is half of a good movie struggling to fit into half of a mediocre one. The scenes between Hawn and Rush work best.
There’s something with potential here, but the movie decides, like Lavinia, to go the conservative route.
The Banger Sisters occasionally exhibit a raw sense of sexuality that compliments the alluring maturity of bombastic babes Sarandon and Hawn. Still, these ravishing relics just couldn't pull off a noteworthy tune to the same old song and dance
There are many things that solid acting can do for a movie, but crafting something promising from a mediocre screenplay is not one of them.
A post-feminist fable of growing up and getting your groove back, and more importantly, a showcase for the mature charms of Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn.
