Worth seeing for [Goldie] Hawn alone, and this is, by far, the juiciest role she has been blessed with in ages.

Suzette (Goldie Hawn) and Vinnie (Susan Sarandon) were groupies in their heyday, partying with the likes of Frank Zappa (who dubs them the Banger Sisters), Jim Morrison, and virtually every other rock star and roadie that passed through Los Angeles. Twenty years later, Suzette is a bartender who finds herself too old to stay in the Los Angeles rock scene. Distraught, she heads to Phoenix in search of her former best friend, picking up neurotic and quirky Harry (Geoffrey Rush) at a gas station along the way. But when Suzette arrives in Phoenix, she is surprised to find that her once wild friend may as well be a different person. Married to a lawyer with political aspirations and the mother of two teenage daughters, Vinnie is now LaVinia, a refined, cultured pillar of the community. With Suzette back in town, LaVinia is confronted with her past and finds that she must make peace with it to fully embrace her true self. Hawn and Sarandon are well cast, and Rush is a scene-stealer as a wounded man who finds new inspiration in Suzette. Writer Bob Dolman makes his directorial debut with THE BANGER SISTERS. [More]

Reviews for The Banger Sisters
I'm in a deep funk after watching this offensive, unfunny comedy starring two of my favorite actresses.
What's really sad is to see two Academy Award winning actresses (and one Academy Award winning actor) succumb to appearing in this junk that's TV sitcom material at best.
A giggle-inducing comedy with snappy dialogue and winning performances by an unlikely team of Oscar-winners: Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn.
So predictable you can set your watch to it, The Banger Sisters is enlivened by the fun-loving byplay of its Oscar-winning stars.
Even if the inconsistent, cliche-ridden plot is predictable, it has raunchy, spicy, vivacious charm and just the right touch of nostalgic, bittersweet poignancy - an off-color chick-flick for grown-ups.
The movie is worth seeing only to savor Hawn's self-mocking ebullience as a character who comes off as a grown-older version of the sexy kooks she played three decades ago.
...a one-joke comedy that seems to exist only to give its two actresses an opportunity to play dress-up and act naughty.
From opening to closing credits, there isn't a single genuine moment.
Like those to Rome, all roads in The Banger Sisters inevitably lead to a joke about Hawn's breasts, which constantly threaten to upstage the woman sporting them.
It's an audience flattering Hollywood movie about the redemptive powers of vulgarity and joy of letting it all hang out. Even if it isn't yours.
Simply put, there should have been a more compelling excuse to pair Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn.
Sets up a nice concept for its fiftysomething leading ladies, but fails loudly in execution.
It comes off as too predictable, unimaginative and less than noteworthy.
What The Banger Sisters offers in place of an eloquent statement is the charm of two actresses at the top of their game in flashy roles and a smart script that's decidedly more coarse than sentimental.
It is OK for a movie to be something of a sitcom apparatus, if the lines work, the humor has point and the actors are humanly engaged.
