It's the most showy vehicle [Hawn has] had in ages, and she puts the pedal to the floor.

Suzette (Goldie Hawn) and Vinnie (Susan Sarandon) were groupies in their heyday, partying with the likes of Frank Zappa (who dubs them the Banger Sisters), Jim Morrison, and virtually every other rock star and roadie that passed through Los Angeles. Twenty years later, Suzette is a bartender who finds herself too old to stay in the Los Angeles rock scene. Distraught, she heads to Phoenix in search of her former best friend, picking up neurotic and quirky Harry (Geoffrey Rush) at a gas station along the way. But when Suzette arrives in Phoenix, she is surprised to find that her once wild friend may as well be a different person. Married to a lawyer with political aspirations and the mother of two teenage daughters, Vinnie is now LaVinia, a refined, cultured pillar of the community. With Suzette back in town, LaVinia is confronted with her past and finds that she must make peace with it to fully embrace her true self. Hawn and Sarandon are well cast, and Rush is a scene-stealer as a wounded man who finds new inspiration in Suzette. Writer Bob Dolman makes his directorial debut with THE BANGER SISTERS. [More]

Reviews for The Banger Sisters
The stars are so good that the idiotic arbitrariness of the script doesn’t leap off the screen the way it should.
However ironic it is in a film about women changing, it’s the male lead, played by Geoffery Rush, who goes through the most metamorphosis.
It glistens and even sparkles, courtesy of a top-tier cast headed by Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon.
It's entirely due to Sarandon and Hawn that this is such a good-natured, likable movie.
Hawn, giving her best performance in a long, long time, and Sarandon, who is almost incapable of bad acting, are funny and believable.
An exhilarating estrogen flick for those losing theirs and contact Viagra for everyone else.
Too bad writer/ director Bob Dolman can't think of anything better to do with the premise than turning it into Grumpy Old Sluts.
The actresses find their own rhythm and protect each other from the script's bad ideas and awkwardness.
A drama filmed like a comedy with the wrong actresses in the wrong roles.
Sarandon’s motherly sexiness is appealing, but it’s Hawn, in a warm and deep performance as the hapless but free-spirited Suzette, who walks away with the movie.
What could and should have been a deep-felt rumination on aging ... is never more thoughtful than half-hour television.
The combination of Sarandon and Hawn, playing women who are honestly and obviously middle-aged and willing to ponder their pasts with clear eyes, keeps The Banger Sisters afloat.
A lot of fun, with an undeniable energy sparked by two actresses in their 50s working at the peak of their powers.
The movie wavers between Hallmark card sentimentality and goofy, life-affirming moments straight out of a cellular phone commercial.
You just have to wonder if a female writer or director could have had more vision in shaping this fertile material into something worthwhile.
All leather pants & augmented boobs, Hawn is hilarious as she tries to resuscitate the fun-loving libertine lost somewhere inside the conservative, handbag-clutching Sarandon.
