Holy Box Set, Batman! It's Special Edition Time!
by Scott Weinberg | July 27, 2005
Discuss Article
Variety reports that WB Home Video will be releasing all four "Batman" movies via the 2-disc Special Edition treatment on Oct. 18th. (And by "all four" we mean Tim Burton's "Batman" and "Batman Returns," as well as Joel Schumacher's "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin.")

The DVDs will offer a combined 18 hours of bonus features, including director commentaries, making-of featurettes, deleted and additional scenes and nine music videos.

And while there's no release date set just yet for Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins," batfans can expect to see that DVD hit the shelves right around the same time.

Special Edition
No thank you! DVD has been around for so long, that last year I finally caved in to get the stripped down versions of Batman and Batman Returns. Cost $14.95 a piece from Best Buy. They waited a little to long to sucker me in to this one.

about frigging time
i've been holding out on buying batman for years! I'm still kind of pissed that it took this long. I mean, the fifth element has had four dvd releases so far! Same with Terminator 2!

Oh! and they'd better release the films separately, because you'd have to pay me to taint my library with schumacher's crap fest.

And finally, when are they gonna come out with a decent 'Fugitive' dvd release, instead of the 7 year old cardboard case treatment currently on shelves???

DVD companies have already taken enough of my money. I have my six different releases of Army of Darkness. Once companies settle on which High-Def DVD format, we'll be scrambling to update our movies to that format. Frankly I'm tired of shelling out buckets of money just to keep my movie collection up to date with the latest media standards. I wish there was a way where you can buy rights to a movie then pay incremental fees for each emerging media standard to watch the movie on.

Figures
Yeah, I just recently bought the Batman Legacy collection at Wal-Mart, just because I've always liked the Tim Burton version of the character, and now they announce better versions of the DVD. Well, I'm not going to be buying them. What is up with Warner Brothers doing this all of a sudden with releasing standard releases for about $10, when they'd be better suited for a $5 purchase... Just boggles my mind.

This would have thrilled me before, but now I don't even care that much. Maybe I'll get the first one, but after Batman Begins I have no interest in the first films.

Bad Combination
Why bother mixing the Schumacher Batman with the Burton Batman???

NOBODY wants to remember the Schumacher Batman films! I would PAY for the two Burton batman dvds. Not a single cent for Schumacher's

Ok, no chance I'd ever risk the humiliation of being caught owning one of Schumacher's Bat-flicks, BUT, apparently this rerelease has Schumacher offering up commentary and I dunno, if I can rent these things, I may have to do it just to hear what in the hell he could have possibly been thinking.

looking forward to the Schumacher commentaries...
what, Warner Bros. just figured out that "DVD are cool"? it took them THIS LONG? hopefully, there will be a director's commentary, so maybe Joel Schumacher can tell us our WHAT THE HELL HE WAS THINKING! or maybe the commentary will only have the sounds of Schumacher getting beaten with aluminum baseball bats by angry Batman fans. or at least have David Goyer and Chris Nolan verbally abusing Schumacher until he cries, or perhaps have them quiz Schumacher on Batman trivia as he sits there in utter silence. that bastard needs to be publicly humiliated then flogged.

Batman & Robin
Batman & Robin is what got me into making movies. Dr Freeze was a great character (beautifully played by you know who), George Clooney was the perfect choice for Batman, and after appearing on this film, Alicia Silverstone and Chris O Donnel went on to pursue the great careers we all know.

If I hadn't watched it, there would have been no House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark.

I can't wait to watch it again, who knows what great films could get inspired by yet another viewing

It's about time!
Special editions of the 1989 - 97 Batman films have been rumored to be in the works for at least the past three years. I was rather surprised that they didn't get released just a little prior to "Batman Begins." The bad thing about the original DVD releases that the only extras are production notes and filmographies. They don't even have the trailers! I sold my copies to a used DVD store three years ago in anticipation of special editions. I didn't know I was going to have to wait this long to get those movies back.
