Progress on a "Battlestar Galactica" Movie?
by Scott Weinberg | June 12, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
If (like me) you're a big fan of "Battlestar Galactica" and you're wondering if there's plans to make a movie out of the series, well, keep your fingers crossed.

Although recent reports indicate that the film project is a no-go, IESB.net talked to a few of the producers, and they did leave us with a little hope:
Quote:
David Eick told the IESB that he hopes for a feature film and has extended the olive branch to Glen Larson. Aha! Glen Larson? Yes, the original creator of Battlestar Galactica has never been 100% happy with the new TV show but holds the feature film rights to the property. So if David and Ron hope to make a movie, they will have to first make peace with Glen.
So it still looks like a long shot, but hey, we still have the fourth and final TV season to look forward to.

Why are 6's eyes glowing red there? That's extremely silly and gives people a completely incorrect impression of what the show is.

Bring back the ORIGINAL BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!!!
I saw half the first series of this remade galactica and couldnt watch any more!
Its terrible in comparison to the original.

Its like remaking star wars with britney spears as LUKE!!!

The cylons look ok, but are merely a step up from star wars droid army. The cylon ships look like rushed designs from gamesworkshop. If they at least kept the space ships the same as the original and the lasers the same, it might have been in with a chance.

But for me, this series as it is would have been better off if they named it something else. This IS NOT battlestar Galactica folks!

I for one wont be watching a movie of this, unless it is nothing to do with this remade series.

You're missing out on a great series, bat-fink. Give it a second chance. The plotlines are top-notch and is way beyond anything on regular tv today.

I watched the old series also and all I can remember of it was the cheesiness of the characters. This series deals with more mature material IMO.

Of course it's not the old Battlestar, it's a re-envisioning.

Never liked the old series. The new one is better, but should've only had two or three seasons. They've dragged it out too long. I ended up not watching it anymore. The first two seasons seemed quality enough for me. I'd be interested in a movie, but I suppose I'd have to catch up with where the TV series is at first.

The TV series is definately better than %90 of the crap on TV today.

I can sympathise with Bat-Fink considering that he liked the original series, with how different the new series is in comparison, but I consider the new series to be far superior.

Old show: Had spunk but was cheesy
New show: Looks great but is too melodramatic

I can't say I'm a big fan of either one. But they do have their moments.

I watched the original as a teenager and loved it. It was so enthralling - I even bought (and still have) all the original comic books.
But I've got to say, this new series has really raised the bar for not just sci-fi shows, but for TV shows in general.
Bat-Fink, from one original BSG fan to another, I implore you to give it another chance. I actually didn't fall in love with the series until halfway through the first season.
I see this new version of BSG the same way I see the way comic book writers treat continuity in comic books nowadays. The agelessness and the perpetual future that comic books enjoy is attributed to different "realities" or timelines. So you're reading the same story & people, but displaced in another reality (explains how Spider-Man has gone from a teenager to a 20-something over the course of 30+ years). That was probably a poor explanation, but hopefully someone gets the gist.

I think that a Battle Star Galactica movie would be really good. I agree that the new series is not a remake of the old Battle Star Galactica. I didn't even know there was a remake until my brother loaned me a DVD of season 1. I've been a fan ever since.

Some people love anything as long as it takes place in space.

I've learned that no matter how good a comic book is, it has no effect on the value of a TV show or movie.

My main issue with the show is that unless you watch every episode of the season from day one, it's hard to get into it. I tried to watch it last week and was totally lost because I had missed two weeks of it. The new BSG needs a little more individuality per episode, IMO.

BTW: Sputnik22? I had no idea there were more than just me. If it's a compliment to me, thank you. =)

Any new Battlestar is welcome Battlestar
I grew up watching the original show, so I was very skeptical of the re-envisioned BSG. Man, am I ever glad I took that chance. Since then, the new show has become my favorite show of all time, in any genre. I have never missed an episode, I own all the dvds and I even unplug my phone and turn off the lights Sundays at ten. Yeah, that may sound lame, but I love the show that much. All of my friends that I have convinced to give the show a chance have ended up becoming hooked. I actually had a chance to speak with Ron Moore at the Star Wars Celebration IV in LA last month. Being able to shake his hand and hearing my girlfriend tell him that he and George Lucas are the reasons she loves sci-fi were the highlights of that trip. At least the producers of BSG know when to say when. Going out on top is a difficult but classy move.

I loved the origina,l when I was about 7 years old. I couldn't wait to see every episode. When I watch it now I realise the best part of the old series was the music with the opening sequence, the rest is pretty cheesy.
When I watched the new series for the first time I was so annoyed I didn't even watch it all. Starbuck was a woman and no cool music!
I gave it another chance and am addicted, it's the best Sci-fi show ever, maybe the best TV series ever. The new Starbuck is 10 times better but I'd love to hear the old score return.
If they do make a Movie I'd love to see another completly different take. More of an action/chase move would be great.

As much as I love Battlestar, with the series set to end at the end of this next season (Season 4), I don't really see how they could do a movie based on the current events of the series and if they get the rights and end the series unresolved, I'll be a little upset.

My best guess would be it would be a prequel movie that (hopefully!) deals with the original cylon rebellion. Of course, you wouldn't have the current cast...but it would be nice to see a story that dealt with the original rebellion and develop the backstory and the original treaty forged out of the rebellion.

Of course, we already know the outcome of the original rebellion, the treaty that ensued and the subsequent invasion.

No one is better than Dirk Benedict. He was the Face man!!!! I saw him on Celebrity Big Brother here in the UK and he was trying to hook up with this 20 year old Bollywood actress. Awesome.

Unfortunately it's not an homage to you - but great minds certainly do think alike!
