Movie Info

Audiences got two cowboy stars for the price of one with this Universal Western serial "suggested" by Buffalo Bill Cody's The Great West That Was and released in 12 exciting chapters in 1931. Silent screen Western hero Tom Tyler played Cody, with Rex Bell, formerly of FOX, as young sidekick Dave Archer. They team up to defeat a local megalomaniac, Jim Rodney (played, with gusto, by Francis Ford), who is threatening the local populace with an Indian uprising in order to secure the gold claims at nearby Hard Rock. Blond Lucile Browne gets herself in various perils, while William Desmond, athlete Jim Thorpe, and stunt-man Yakima Canutt supply added color to the proceedings. Tyler replaced Tim McCoy, the star of Universal's first sound serial The Indians are Coming (1930).more
