Jack Black, Mos Def Make With the Funny in Be Kind Rewind Trailer

The closest we'll get to a Robocop remake. This year.

If you're jonesing for a Jack Black fix -- but not so badly that you're willing to shell out ten bucks to see him in this fall's Margot at the Wedding -- we've got good news: The trailer for December's Be Kind Rewind, starring Black with Mos Def, has hit the Web.

Be Kind Rewind, opening in New York and Los Angeles December 21, comes from the twisted and fertile mind of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry. As the synopsis reveals:

A man (Black) whose brain becomes magnetized unintentionally destroys every tape in his friend's video store. In order to satisfy the store's most loyal renter, an aging woman with signs of dementia, the two men set out to remake the lost films, which include Back to the Future, The Lion King, and Robocop.

A project tailor-made for Black's comedic sensibilities, in other words, and the trailer does not disappoint. If you don't find Black's shtick funny, you'll be allergic to this clip, but otherwise, click on through and check it out.

Looks hilarious, but that was an old Amanda Bynes Show sketch. Still looks great, though

He was great in Mars Attacks, even though it was a small part.

Haha I actually remember that sketch on the Amanda Show.

Also, I'm convinced that Michael Gondry is God or Buddha or something like that. Can't wait for this.

I saw a sneak preview of the movie and it was just OK. Perhaps they'll make some changes to improve it before it's released.

when i heard this awhile back i thought it sounded hilarious so...hopefully it will be. BUT, i thought Back to the Future was the only one they COULDN'T get permission to do. thats one of two things i heard about this flick, that and the director/whatever didn't let Black watch the movies he'd never seen before. he just wanted him to wing it and IMAGINE what he thought the real movie was about. most of it is jack black improv...so i really hope he's as funny in this as he was in Saving Silverman

It looks like it could be a one joke movie that goes on for too long... BUT Michael Gondry is one of the most innovative minds today, Jack Black looks to be at his charismatic best, and Mos Def is the real deal when it comes to comedy (see: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy). I'm in

I was going to say it sounds more like an SNL sketch than a full length movie, then someone had to go and say Amanda Bynes... now I want to go curl up and a corner and cry about how much what passes for entertainment today sucks.

All that said... anything with Jack Black is worth a viewing.

I like Gondry. I like a few Jack Black movies, but I mostly don't get why people like him so much.

This doesn't look very good though. It has Gondry's style all over it, but I don't understand how this idea can be stretched out to a full length feature. As someone who isn't really a Jack Black fan, it's not him that's bothering me in this trailer. I just think it looks weak. Super weak. Almost listless.

Didn't make me laugh but it put a big smile on my face throughout most of it. It's novel anyway like most if not all of Gondry's films.
