Critic Reviews for Bearcity
Of the crop of gay-centered features from TLA Releasing...the romantic dramedy BearCity certainly shows the most complexity.
Douglas Langway's middling comedy is sort of a Sex and the City for big, hirsute gay guys and the younger cubs who fancy them...
Despite a schmaltzy original score and some clunky direction, the film's well-portrayed characters and spot-on depiction of the scene make this a pleasant enough romp.
Audience Reviews for Bearcity
Comes across as a pilot episode for a Queer as Folk come Sex & the City set in NY bear scene, but it's an enjoyable romp filled with likable characters.
I had big hopes for Bear City. But it wasn't at all what I expected. The acting was just ok, though some roles were played better than others. I was kind of let down, as the sex scenes kind of killed it for me. I think if they had left out the rampant sex, and kept things geared more to the main role landing his daddy. I would have liked it better. The audio was kind of bad as well, as the music and the moaning was often louder then the dialog. Though they certainly cast some nice looking bearded men as extras. It had it's moments, but over all, it was just ok. As usual to many stories going on to keep track of everything.
All I can say is that it was mildly amusing. Just 'bearable' enough. *groan* They could have fixed the DVD sound quality and overbearing music drowning out the dialogue. Probably the only movie you'll ever hear the line "who put the E in my dirty jock!" - :0
