In these reveries, Claude finds the excitement and adventure he's longed for: at the turn of the 20th century he is a noted composer who courts the beautiful Edmée; in 1840 he is a polished army officer stationed in Algeria who visits a harem and encounters the voluptuous Leila; and during the French Revolution he meets the glamorous Suzanne.
