In the witty and daringly original contemporary thriller BEAUTIFUL CREATURES set in Glasgow, Scotland, Dorothy (Susan Lynch) and Petula (Rachel Weisz) are two women with one thing in common – they both have rotten taste in men. After a dangerous encounter with her boyfriend Tony (Iain Glenn), Dorothy decides to leave town with her faithful dog, when she happens on Petula, who is being beaten by her equally volatile beau Brian (Tom Mannion). Springing to Petula’s defence, Dorothy accidentally kills Brian.

Panicked, the two women hatch a dangerous and bizarrely hilarious scheme to convince Brian’s menacing older brother Ronnie (Maurice Roeves) that he has been kidnapped. Their bold-faced plan runs awry however, when the corrupt and leering Detective Inspector Hepburn (Alex Norton) shows up. Hepburn has a plan of his own, which includes collecting part of the ransom money and, perhaps, Petula as well.

When Dorothy’s boyfriend Tony reappears and also wants in on the scam, the elaborate cat and mouse game comes to a head.

Three dangerous men. Two beautiful women.

These poor guys. They don’t stand a chance. [More]

At least nobody could accuse the director Bill Eagles or his writer Simon Donald of mealy-mouthed timidity.

...an entertaining and darkly clever little British crime film, giving the spotlight to the girlfriends of the hoods instead

Would be more appealing if the women's behavior weren't alternately moronic and venal.

Loathsome as any mindless, blood-drenched Hollywood action-adventure yarn.

A sort of Trainspotting For Girls -- down and dirty, speedily paced, violent and humorous.

Celebrates disgusting behavior as much as any Guy Ritchie film, only without the touches of wit and characterization that make Ritchie's work palatable.

As the movie limps on, it becomes painfully obvious that both these 'creatures' ... will always remain victims at best, stooges at worst.

For folks who like a genuinely tense suspense film with heavy doses of black humor ... this ought to do it.

[Has] the most lopsided and nauseating cast of male pigs since Ridley Scott conned his way to a so-called feminist victory in Thelma and Louise.
