The storyline may not always be sterling in a Jet Li movie, but one thing you can say for sure: Once Jet Li starts rocking in his purist martial arts action, there are few more stunning practitioners. See this maybe a whole lot less for the story than to see Li when he starts to roll. What a butt-kickingly superior martial arts stylist.

This is such a weird movie and I've seen my fair share of weird movies before. Maybe it's the combination of stylized action, gore, british dubbing and 80s feel to it. I really wasn't expecting it to be what it was. Jet Li looks like Kato from the Green Hornet and more or less is the character. There's really nothing that interesting about the movie at all, everything in it has been done better in other movies. It should only be seen by Jet Li completists.

Seen this movie with my girlfriend and we both really enjoyed it, had some pretty good martial arts in it but im still not a fan of Jet Li unlike her.

3.5 stars of 5 for Black Mask. This Jet Li movie is interesting, high action and a good story. Plenty of Hong Kong wire-work fight scenes. A small tribute to Bruce Lee's "Kato" character of the Green Hornet fame. What can you say, it is a Jet Li movie and I like Jet Li! Oh, this movie was filmed in Hong Kong and looks like it was originally in Chinese and redubed into English. It is worth the time to watch and I will likely watch it again in the future.

Lots of cheese, some crack-ups and soda pop thrills. Not bad at all for some diversion between thought-provoking fare.

Great action and some really cool ideas. The story wasn't great and some goofy things kept it from being a great movie. Worth seeing.

A fun comic bookish action flick, with Jet Li taking on a squad of government killers that he himself defected from. Over the top and beautifully color saturated, this is just a great flick.

Recommended.

Buncha crap when it first came out in HK, buncha crap when it was repackaged and released in the US.

SWEET! I like the Martial Arts and I love Jet Li's talent for this sort of stuff, but the story line was a little corny anyway.

Oh dear... Chinese cheese camp! But I enjoyed it. All my cable company had was the laughable English dub version. But the action scenes are amazing (as expected)...

I actually really liked this Jet Li movie! Loved the many epic fight scenes with elements reminiscent of The Matrix, which is befitting considering they were choreographed by the same man, Yuen Wo Ping. However, I didn't care too much for Jet Li's cheesy costume, and thought the ending was somewhat lacklustre. Not recommended for people suffering from hemophobia!

Jet Li should have been Kato.

A relatively well-dubbed transition to the states with excellent fight sequences, but its seriously in 'lost in translation' realms in some parts.

Jet Li plays the title character, an escapee from a sinister government experiment that gave him superpowers. Black Mask tries to live a quiet life as a librarian in Hong Kong, but he's forced to suit up and return to action when some of the mentally unstable subjects of his experiment begin causing havoc. This movie has some cool action sequences and the final confrontation ranks as one of the best pieces of cinematic combat I've ever witnessed. Unfortunately, the characters don't do much for me and the plot is pretty anemic even by the low standards of martial arts movies.
