I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it is not an overrated piece of work. It seems to me that you watched this film with revulsion from the very first minute. Try not to do that next time, ok, cause you may enjoy th film!
Every time I have met someone who dislikes this movie, they are in their early 20's or younger and their biggest problem is ALWAYS the pacing. Ah well might as well tear down the museums and put up sticks with strobe lights.
Actually, I'm 19 y/o and I consider it to be a sci-fi masterpiece. Perhaps not on par with Space Odyssey but nevertheless a brilliant picture with a perfect pace and realistic gloom. A smart angle on the future.
I was 15 years old when I watched it (I'm 16 now), and I consider it to be a masterpiece. It is, along with Brazil and Alien, my favourite film of all time (although I've yet to see Citizen Kane or The Godfather, so we'll see).
I saw and disliked it as a teen. My problem wasn't the pacing; it was the attempt to construct a meticulous puzzle piece within an action film; even if you understood the clues Scott put in the film it was difficult to actually the enjoy the movie knowing the clues as you watched it; substance over style or theory over application. Like knowing the brilliantly constructed music theory behind an abstract piece that sounds terrible.
Even then, the film's message concerning humanity paled in comparison to "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" Actually, the only things I liked about it were the retrofitted atmosphere, the beautiful noir, and, without saying, the pacing.
Yeah, actually I am 19, this has been my favourite film since I was 12, so that statement is inaccurate, most of my friends are of the same opinion that this is a film masterpiece. It's more like, most people aged below 17 NOW, have no respect for this film, or any film that didn't reach the film "charts", the sort of people who like to be spoon fed films and games.
Completely misses the point, and then extenuates it by calling the ambiguity of the ending poorly executed. this is the kind of person who thinks Bad Boys is a deep socio-economic reflection of the treatment black cops. My hint to David, hang up the gloves for a bit while you watch some movies or stick with Bay fare.
Haha!! What a ridiculous review! I can only think David Nusair has reacted badly to something he hates stylistically and somehow ignored all the films good points. Either that or the only thing hopelessly overrated is Mr Nusair as a film critic.
Talk about "threadbare" you seem to be a professional at writing in the style of "threadbare" as your review lacks detail and thought and is horribly written. You pretty much copy and pasted a synopsis and then threw in a few sentences of your own to make it seem like you have some talent for writing. Your complaints with the film are vague and unprofessional. "Threadbare" storyline? I guess Philip K. Dick is just a "threadbare" writer right? Bloated? 1 hour and 57 minutes is bloated? You must have the attention span of a 4 year old if you think 117 minutes is bloated. This is hands down one of the, if not the greatest sci-fi films of all time. Everything is on point in this film. Also, you make no serious mention of the soundtrack which is considered by many to be one of the gretest soundtracks of all times. I saw in your reviews that you gave "I Am Number Four" a fresh review stating that it is "an above average sci-fi film" Seriously?
Larry David
This review already counted towards the theatrical cut of Blade Runner. It should not apply to the Director's Cut as well!
