Critic Review - Deseret News, Salt Lake City

A very dark and far too long thriller with many dull moments that would serve the film better by moving along a bit faster.

This is not a really a fair review. This is NOT a review of the the theatrical release of "Blade Runner". It's a review of the Director's Cut released in 1992. So, it should not count towards this film's release. Get your sh*t together, RT!

Ok, I agree that the film moves quite slowly in some parts but that should not be seen as a negative quality. Most people see Blade Runner as an opportunity to witness fast paced action and visualy enticing scenes, the latter is most certainly true. However, I see it as not as an action film but a Science fiction psychological thriller/drama with noir influences, slow pace is NECESSARY. Viewers and critics alike have not had their expectations met which is the reason why many people/critics may dislike the film and completely ignore the psychological themes and ambiguity of Blade Runner. This is why it is important to not expect anything from any film prior to watching it (apart from the genre) because it will cloud the actuality of the film. Blade Runner is a masterpiece that was indeed misunderstood, both after and prior to watching it...
