Blue Sky was the last film directed by Tony Richardson (Tom Jones) before his death in 1991 and one of the last releases from once-thriving Orion Films, whose bankruptcy kept the picture on the shelf for several years. It also features two career-high performances by Tommy Lee Jones and Jessica Lange, who won the Best Actress Oscar for this role, as Hank and Carly Marshall, a military couple whose marriage unravels under the pressure of his job and her mental instability. Hank is an Army captain

Jones and Lange at their best.
Persuasively alive... The movie is sufficiently at odds with itself to be both frustrating and intriguing.
There are two reasons to see this preposterously plotted military-marital melodrama: Jessica Lange's Oscar-winning performance and the fact that it became Brit Tony Richrdson's very last work.
Lange and Jones are an electrifying couple
A loosely structured story that is held together by the gravity of Jessica Lange's inspiring performance. A jumble of adultery, deceit and mental illness made worse by it's obtrusive anti-nuclear agenda.

Jones is just as good as Lange. Worthwhile for their performances alone.
