Bosworth is... Set among the white beaches and thunderous waves of Hawaii's North Shore, BLUE CRUSH is an adrenaline-drenched surf picture that boasts a star-making performance from Kate Bosworth. Bosworth is Anne Marie, a determined surfer who shares a beachside shack with her best friends Eden (Michelle Rodriguez) and Lena (Sanoe Lake), and younger sister Penny (Mika Boorem). Just days away from the infamous Rip Masters surfing contest, Anne Marie's life is thrown into turmoil. After being fired from her housekeeping job at a luxury resort hotel, she is courted by the hunky NFL quarterback Matt Tollman (Matthew Davis). As she tries to contain the wild emotions that are threatening to overwhelm her, Anne Marie tries to come to terms with a surfing accident from her past that nearly killed her. In order to survive the contest's deadly, crushing waves, Anne Marie must reach deep within herself to find the courage necessary to come out on top. With BLUE CRUSH, director John Stockwell gives the audience what they want: bikinis, music, romance, and surfing. His picture is graced with David Hennings' gorgeous photography, which captures the beauty and the excitement of the immensely popular sport. [More]

Blue Crush is a real Splashdance...filled with jaw-dropping photography that breathlessly drags you into the waves head first and leaves you soaked with awe.

I guarantee that there are four separate shots throughout this movie of characters wiping out, and hitting their eye on the exact same underwater rock.

I weep for the future when a good portion of the respected critical community in this country consider Blue Crush to be an intelligent film about young women.

The movie isn't nearly dumb enough to be much beach fun.

Blue Crush works because it takes the sport - and its practitioners - seriously.

On its own limited terms, Blue Crush is a complete success -- a genuine Billabong-hit of adrenaline.

I'd suggest a triple feature of Beach Party movies as a far more pleasurable %u2013 and intellectually rewarding %u2013 experience.

On a certain base level, Blue Crush delivers what it promises, just not well enough to recommend it.

The body-doubling and face-pasting are unfortunately blatant.

Possesses something rare: a degree of genuine reverence in its depiction of surfing as a sport and a subculture.

This formulaic surfing safari turns out to be a heartfelt tribute to the potency of grrl power.

Despite the fact “Blue Crush’s” characters are thinly written with acting as transparent as a politician’s apology - I liked the film.

Blue Crush achieves something no other surfing movie has even attempted: it tells a good story, with a lovely screenplay and engaging characters.

I found a rare moment when I couldn't predict where it was headed, but John Stockwell directs at such a breezy clip and the surfing shots are so galvanizing, I didn't mind.
