Consensus: Martin Lawrence lends his comedic touch, but the movie isn't much more than standard action-comedy fare.

Now that he's out of the slammer, he wants the loot back! There's only one problem--the place he hid them is now an L.A. police precinct. When he impersonates a badgeman to get close to his jewels, he winds up in the middle of robberies, drug busts and car chases with his unsuspecting rookie partner (Wilson). Which will happen first--Miles recovering his lost booty or gaining the respect of the police force for action in the line of duty? [More]

  • Master jewel thief Miles Logan (Martin Lawrence, Life, Bad Boys) has a big problem. A $20 million dollar problem. Recently released from prison for the botched heist of a huge diamond, he's anxious to retrieve the hot rock which he hid at a construction site two years earlier. Unfortunately, his hiding place is now at the center of a recently completed high-security police precinct. Posing as a detective, and partnered with straight laced rookie Carlson (Luke Wilson, Home Fries, Bottle Rocket),Miles utilizes his criminal expertise and inadvertently rises up the ranks, winning the respect of his fellow "boys in blue." Powered by a hot soundtrack with music by Jay-Z, Foxy Brown and Tyrese featuring Heavy D, BLUE STREAK is a hilarious action-comedy from director Les Mayfield (Flubber, Encino Man).

Much of Lawrence's verbal humor is more miss than hit, with the misses certain to come off as juvenile to the uninitiated.

The blatant disregard for reality might have been excusable if any of the execution was actually funny.

Blue Streak, loaded with fast-paced, car-chase scenes, is no model of subtle or especially witty dialogue but Lawrence brings in the howls whenever he pulls off one of his many impersonations.

Most of the film is just Mr. Lawrence goofing around.

As an action comedy, Blue Streak offers little freshness on either front.

Still, the movie is pretty bad. It’s Rush Hour meets 48 Hours meets Bad Boys except this time around there’s only one bad boy and the script and direction are subpar.

A comedy without the laughs, and an action film with a non-existent level of excitement, Blue Streak is an obvious and misguided effort.

For all of his comedic efforts, though, Lawrence can't make this cubic zirconia into the jewel it wants to be.
