The movie's atmosphere is moody and intense, bubbling like a caldron. Unfortunately, the broth turns out to be stone soup.

Reviews for The Bone Collector
The real killer... is easily spotted in the movie's one scene that isn't specifically designed to move the plot forward.
Noyce resorts to desperate scare-movie cliches that will disappoint even the easily-frightened.
The Bone Collector can't overcome limits of its script and it is unlikely to remain in viewers' memory for a long time.
The Bone Collector never comes close to the moral chill of Seven or even the step-by-step fascination generated by any number of HBO true-crime shows.
The Bone Collector blows its budget on helicopters, fleets of cop cars, gory effects and the charisma of Denzel Washington to bring this pointless hackwork to theaters.
Although the material is utterly conventional, the film does have a lot going for it.
The filmmakers forgot to satisfactorily conceal the identity of the homicidal title character.
Assembled from off-the-shelf thriller contrivances, likable characters and utter absurdity, with one of those scores that's the musical equivalent of trying to scrape the burnt meat off the bottom of the pot.
The material is crude, sado-porn slop, and not even a gem talent like Washington (or a rising one like Jolie) can make it smell much better.
From the well-placed and effectively used fake-out scares to the finely oiled secondary stock characters, from the charismatic lead characters to the creepy visuals, the film hits all its marks smoothly.
