Billy Walton (Courtney) and his father bond over their shared interest in horses until his father is killed in an unexplained accident. Billy decides he must find his uncle Joe in order to reclaim the land that was stolen from him shortly after his father's death. But when it turns out that Uncle Joe is working under a gambler of questionable intentions named Matt Daggett, Billy realizes his task will be harder than he ever imagined. Daggett kills Joe and puts a bullet in Billy, subsequently deciding to take care of the boy while he recovers, then employing him on his ranch.
