Listless, formless stuff that never survives some serious miscasting.

Consensus: Boys and Girls feels like a cheap rip-off of When Harry Met Sally. The predictable and stale story fails to engage.

Ryan (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) is an Industrial Engineering major at the University of California at Berkeley. He and his best friend Jennifer (Claire Forlani) have known each other since they were twelve, although their relationship has always been rocky. As graduation nears, the two begin to realize that they may have been standing beside their perfect partner from the very beginning. An attractive cast, highlighted by the two leads, makes this a movie that audiences will undoubtedly fall in love with. [More]

Reviews for Boys and Girls
Not for a moment could you believe you're watching actual, viable human beings.
The incredibly perceptive and unique message this film delivers: men and women sometimes have problems communicating. Stop the presses.
There are no sparks behind the wan verbal fireworks, no character behind the caricatures.
A badly miscast and sadly stagnant collegiate rip-off of When Harry Met Sally.
The larger motions [Boys and Girls] goes through are oh-so-tiresomely familiar.
Compared to the wisdom and wickedness of High Fidelity, [Boys and Girls] is such a slight movie.
Given the vagaries of film production, it's certainly possible that none of these appealing young performers could have anticipated the eventual shape this movie would take. Still, there may have been signs along the way.
A romantic comedy is supposed to be fanciful and fun. This is neither. Nor is it sexy.
This is less a movie than a casting call -- just round up a crowd of pretty young faces, fresh yet still familiar, and call it a job well done.
It's a paint-by-numbers romantic comedy, but without the heart or laughs to make it work.
