Critic Review - Chicago Sun-Times

The film establishes a bland, reassuring, comforting Brady reality - a certain muted tone that works just fine but needs, I think, a bleaker contrast from outside to fully exploit the humor.

Normally I love Ebert, but this seems the opposite of reality. While the family was bland, the surroundings were fully entrenched in (perhaps over the top) 90s pessimism.
