Movie Info

When a mysterious cone, 50-feet tall by 50-feet across at its base, is discovered sticking out of the ground near the town or Riverdale, IL, a group of investigators from Washington, D.C., are sent in to determine its origins. They discover that various townspeople have been murdered, while others, including the mayor, have disappeared; and when they reappear, they're under some form of outside control. One man's camp is another man's crap. An uber-low budget sci-fi thriller about low tech "insects" (hairballs with protruding pipe cleaners) who emerge from a mysterious metallic cone to turn unsuspecting humans into mindless slaves. Sort of a Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets The Trouble with Tribbles.

For me this is a solid 4-star classic of Science fiction and horror. A solidly made well conceived movie with plenty of twists and turns to catch you off-guard even in this day and age. An excellent film. The reason I did not rate it higher is that the dialog was not up to 5 star quality, nor were production values.
