Stephen Hawking to Star in, Narrate Science Pic -- in IMAX 3D!

World-renowned scientist Stephen Hawking is making another leap into cinema, and this time the pic will bring him and his theories into the third dimension!

The author of "A Brief History of Time" will narrate and star in "Beyond the Horizon," a half-fiction, half-documentary project about his theories of the origin of the universe. He'll get a hand from snazzy computer-generated sequences that will help explain the complexities of astrophysics to theatergoers.

Hawking is no stranger to showbiz, having appeared numerous times playing himself on television shows like "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "The Simpsons," and in a documentary based on his book, "A Brief History of Time" (1991). He also starred in a miniseries for PBS, "Stephen Hawking's Universe," in which he explained many of his Big Bang theories, much like he will in the upcoming IMAX film.

From the Times Online:

"Leonard Mlodinow, a physicist and former scriptwriter on 'Star Trek,' is working with Hawking on the film project.

Mlodinow said that it would also include dramatised interviews with Einstein and other famous physicists such as Richard Feynman. "It will be like 'Groundhog Day' meets 'Star Trek,'" he said."

I thought I read a while back that Spielberg was attatched to a project based on Hawking's theories, is that still going on or is this it?? Spielberg is worse than Tarantino when it comes to choosing his next project

This sounds like it could be interesting, it's been a long time since I went to IMAX, I'm sure I wont be the only one in the theatre who alters their conscious before going in

This sounds pretty cool. So far the 3D "educational" IMAX films I've seen haven't been very educational. DEEP SEA 3D was visually interesting, at least.

Spielberg is doing "Interstellar" wormhole flic. Working with Kip Throne. Deep Sea 3D was visually impressive no doubt. The narration was for the younger crowd. The 3D was awesome, so real, so Hawking's IMAX 3D will be super cool. Can't wait.

This is the new 3D. Not the red/blue anaglyph glasses. The 3D camera has two lenses equally apart as our eyes. Filming in stereo. James Cameron's Avatar and Battle Angel and everything else he will be apart of, along with RZ's Beowulf and someone else directing Journey to the Center of the Earth are all filmed this way. I now that JC is using HD3D - HiDef. Which is digital. Eventually it will be the norm. This may also defeat priacy.
