Shallow, slow and Mr. Brown is an irritant.
I have just seen the exquisite and piercing "Bright Star" -- and I've read Ms. Alexander's review. Something's shallow all right, but it's not the movie. Next time I want the opinion of someone who knows nothing about directing, nothing about writing, nothing about acting, and has absolutely no feeling for language, I'll know where to look. But V. Alexander is right on one point: she should not attempt to read the poetry of John Keats. She should not attempt to read anything more challenging than comic books, chat room exchanges, and the occasional fashion magazine column.
