Summary

This week at the movies, we've got Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman in the big-budget Bible comedy "Evan Almighty"; John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson in the haunted house thriller "1408"; and Angelina Jolie in "A Mighty Heart," based on the memoir by reporter Daniel Pearl's widow. What do the critics have to say? Back to Article

Man, I really expected 1408 to get panned. The first big suprise of the summer.

1408 should've been below 30% rotten.

Critics must be high.

1408 looks excellent. i was really getting tired of all these slasher movies, and Saw 3 sucked, so yeah, can't wait to see it.

i knew Evan was going to suck as soon as i found out about the PG rating. Poor Steve Carell, he is a comedic genius attached to a POS. all well, it will have a decent Box Office this weekend, then it will fall off the face of the earth after Ratatoulie comes out next week. Can't wait. we are finally getting an apology for Cars.

1408 looks pretty good, I think I'll check it out and probably Evan even though I don't expect much from it. But good god please tell me your joking when you say that Wanda Sykes is underutilized because I don't think that's posible.

I just saw 1408. Excellent movie. It's dark, intelligent, and pretty damn cool. Every "happy" scene is doomed, until the ending, which I found to be excellent. Great movie.

Too bad the user ratings in the "A Mighty Heart" section are filled with racists and whiney Jolie-haters who didn't even watch the movie. See the comments if you don't believe me.

These are my least favorite articles because living in the UK, I know I'm going to have to wait 2 to 3 months to see any of these movies. The UK really needs to pull it's head out of it's butt in terms of licensing laws. In the world of Amazon.com. Do you really think people are going to go see a movie in theaters for $13 when they can get the DVD's for $20. You have to be a crack head to buy a British DVD player these days. Shrek the third finally opened up this weekend here, but we won't see Knocked Up which I've heard is pretty much the best movie out this summer until Sept and for God's sake people put butter on your popcorn!!!! What's wrong with you!?! OK, now that I've got that out of my system I should be good for another couple of months.

Haven't seen A Mighty Heart yet so I can't comment on that, but Jolie has been in some stinkers in her career. What was up with that accent in Alexander. Even in a movie that bad her accent was noticeably atrocious. If your not eastern european you have no business attempting that accent. As Angelina and Kate Beckinsale showed us you're just going to come off looking ridiculous.

1408 was excellent!
Its been a while since a really good psychological thriller has come out and 1408 put an end to that! John Cusak did a great job playing someone who is wiggin out the majority of the time! I almost thought they were going to end it really freakin lame there for a minute but thankfully there was still another good 20 minutes left! Freaked me the hell out and the doesn't happen a whole lot anymore. One movie that will keep me freaked out everytime I watch it is the Blair Witch Project. Maybe its just me but the realism of it (especially if you watch it in the dark)...I don't know it just creeps me out. Of course I do live in a shithole town in a shithole state and there is a nice patch of woods right behind my house.

Knocked Up is not good, do not waste your money. Watch good comedy like the Monty Python movies.
