If you want to spend two hours with a psychopath who loves nothing more than getting naked and brawling with prison guards, this is for you. I prefer vintage Kurosawa.
Along the same lines, while you may not care for the subject matter, the execution is brilliant. I have to admit that I was unsure whether the movie would appeal to me for that reason (biopic of a criminal brawler) but was so quickly involved with the character that it mattered little, and surely that must be proof of good direction? Let the reviewer stick to his tedious samurai movies. Bronson is anything but and is very well conceived. A black and white yawnfest it is not...
Wow, that was such a snobbish thing to say. In what way does Kurosawa's classics relate to this film, as if Kurosawa's epics need any more endorsing. That's like me saying, "If you like your ham with cheese then this is for you. I prefer caviar."
I hate film snobs like you. You remind me of the people who state that a certain film could never be as good as, say, 'Casablanca' or 'Citizen Kane' simply because those are two films held in high regard for their time. It is possible to find merit in both classic and contemporary films without discrediting either.
what a douche bag comment. what the fuck does that have to do with anything. it's a shame "critics" such as this have such a shallow understanding of what it truly means to appreciate film as an art form. This man is clearly a fool, making a baseless comparison.
I guarantee I have seen more movies and studied more films than this dumbass, and he's giving the academic side of film a bad name.
What a horrible review. Total douchbag comment by a critic that only knows to quote the big guns (Kurosawa, Kubrick) when he doesn't know how to review a good film.
I'm a great fan of Kurosawa's works, but this is quite the odd review summary to present.
The first sentence is fine. But to throw Kurosawa's name into this is really comparing apples and oranges.
From what I've seen of Bronson, the movie isn't quite as simple as the critic makes it out to be. Some of the staging is theatrical, and in between the brawls and such, there's black humor, and even some cartoonish humor.
If you want to spend three hours with seven guys in stupid costumes talk and fight, then Seven Samurai is for you. I prefer vintage Buster Keaton.
Seriously, this is the most pretentious review I've ever read. What does this have to do with Kurosawa? What is "vintage" Kurosawa? Do you prefer "vintage" Kurosawa to modern day Kurosawa?
this film was about quite a bit more than nude brawling, that only happened twice. but yeah ahahahahahaha you personally could not have come off as more pretentious, good for you you know about some deep japanese films big woop they have absolutely NOTHING to do with this film stop trying to be cool
Although I disagree with Louis about this movie, everyone should back off and give the guy a break. He is entitled to his opinions, so quit calling him a douche bag. Rotten Tomato comments are increasingly turning away from existing to provide a forum for film lovers to talk about a certain movie and more about people lining up to hate on critics who give the movies they like negative reviews.
Eric Robbins
While its a fair point I suppose. Is it fair to give a film a bad review because you dont care for the subject matter?
