Set against the majestic natural splendor of the Great American Northwest, the film tells the story of a boy named Kenai, whose life takes an unexpected turn when the Great Spirits transform him into a bear – the creature he hates most. Befriended by a bear cub named Koda, Kenai sets out to regain his human form while his brother (who doesn’t realize Kenai is now a bear) pursues him on a mission of revenge and family honor. With breathtaking animation, powerful emotion and humor, this film introduces a memorable cast of characters and paints an unforgettable tale of courage, honor and self-discovery. -- © Disney Pictures [More]

Reviews for Brother Bear
Quite easily the best traditionally animated Walt Disney film since 1994's, The Lion King.
Solid family entertainment, but won't give Pixar a run for its money.
Brother Bear isn't a marvel in terms of screenwriting urgency, but it proves the theory that if formula is handled with care and enthusiasm, it can still work delightfully.
Disney has come up with a mythical tale, strong on both sentiment and humor and, of course, stuffed with suitable family values messages about being kind to animals and loving your brother as you would be loved.
Disney’s latest animated film is, if not exactly a return to form, a return to the spirit of The Lion King.
The good news is that this is mostly good old-fashioned hand-drawn Disney animation. The bad news is that it relies too much on old-fashioned formula, hackneyed plot and cookie-cutter characters.
... another pleasant, reasonably entertaining but hardly inspired (or inspiring) effort from the House the Mouse Built.
"Brother Bear" eschews computer animation in favor of the traditional, hand-painted, 2-D variety. As such, it's almost a museum piece.
Brother Bear probably won’t crossover to adult moviegoers without kids [but] it’s an intelligent and entertaining addition to the Disney catalog.
A really good Disney film tarnished by really bad Phil Collins music.
Good story, solid animation, catchy songs, a beautiful score by Mark Mancina and big laughs to not bore the adults. Sounds like the perfect definition of a family film to me.
The movie isn’t as witty as Monsters, Inc. and the storytelling isn’t as sharp as in Tarzan, but the theme of environmental kindness is priceless.
Brother Bear is a fine family film that eschews the competitive and self-centered values of popular culture and proclaims the grooming of one's spirit with love and caretaking.
It's a thoroughly pleasant, if unremarkable, kids' movie that will keep the little ones entertained for 80 minutes while not hurting their parents' heads too much.
A pleasant experience that is more appropriate for families than for adults unaccompanied by young offspring.
an admittedly uneven but reasonably enjoyable mix of Inuit legend, broad comedy and anthemic Phil Collins tunes...
