Steve McQueen Returning to the Big Screen (Sort Of)
Summary
He was nicknamed "The King of Cool" during his Hollywood career, and even more than 25 years after his death, Steve McQueen still has enough pull to rate a biopic. Variety is reporting that producer Kevin Kasha has purchased the film rights to My Husband, My Friend, the memoir written by McQueen's first wife, Neile McQueen Toffel, about their 16-year marriage. on Aug 22 2007 01:39 PM Not long ago RT told of a "rumor" that Pitt was wanting to do a remake of Bullitt and put himself in McQueen's role. So maybe he's already making a decision for everyone. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Aug 22 2007 05:08 PM I've heard Daniel Craig mentioned in the same breath as The Great Escape remake rumors, so this makes perfect sense. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 23 2007 12:07 AM In reply to this comment (#1065064) still what about fight club, seven, babel, snatch, interview with the vampire they all are very different roles which he plays great in...and tru it is pretty easy to play a stoner but still it just adds to his versatility as an ator performance to performance. on May 10 2008 07:51 PM Folks, let's keep some things in perspective: Steve McQueen was not only a film star, he was a REAL car and motorcycle racer. In cars, he not only did the driving scenes in "Bullit", he drove with his partner Peter Revson in the 1970 12 Hours of Sebring race, (with a cast on his left foot from a motorcycle accident two weeks before), and won in their class, missing winning overall by 23 seconds to Mario Andretti. On motorcycles, in 1964, he represented the United States in the International Six Days Trial, and was inducted in the Off-road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1978. In "The Great Escape" although he was prevented from jumping the fence, he did many of the other motorcycle chase scenes, both as himself and dressed as a German soldier. To wrap up, he was a black belt in Tang Soo Do, was a pallbearer at Bruce Lee's funeral, has a Tag Heuer watch named after him, his sunglasses worn in the 1968 movie The Thomas Crown Affair sold at auction in Los Angeles for $70,200, and oh, I almost forgot, Sheryl Crow (along with many others) wrote a song about him. Not for nothing, but Brad Pitt ain't no Steve McQueen. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Jun 11 2008 05:25 PM In reply to this comment (#1784393) Dude. We BOTH know someone. His name is Jensen Ackles. If we don't tell them, who the heck will? (Reply to this) |
|
on Jun 12 2008 10:01 AM Hell, yes, Jensen Ackles. It's a perfect vehicle for him. The character he currently plays (Dean Winchester on "Supernatural") is also a Steve McQueen fan, and several facial expressions that he's given Dean over the last three seasons seem to derive directly from McQueen's arsenal of looks. Plus, Dean Winchester drives a '67 Impala and sports a leather jacket and a smartass attitude. But as an actor, Jensen Ackles is also nuanced and skilled, more than capable of carrying a big-screen leading role and taking Hollywood - and movie-going audiences - by storm. What presence!
