An over-the-top black comedy about two of the most egregious problems in politics- racism and campaign financing.

Consensus: Star and director Beatty's ambitious take on race and politics in 20th-century America isn't perfect, but manages to provide more than its share of thought-provoking laughs.

A surprisingly entertaining political comedy that features a funny and magnetic Beatty as the discouraged politician Bulworth, who has organized his own assassination but, after a three day bender of not sleeping, decides that he wants to live after all. He begins to tell the complete truth at all times, not caring about the potential repercussions of his offensive, yet honest, remarks. Oh yes, of course, and he starts rapping. It's a credit to Beatty that his change of heart seems so believable, and it is this performance that drives the film. All of the supporting players are solid as well, including Berry as a potential love interest who may have ulterior motives, and Platt, who is hysterical as a stressed-out, coked-up campaign aide. The film is an entertaining, well-paced romp that solidifies Beatty's presence as one of Hollywood's most vital and necessary voices. [More]

Reviews for Bulworth
Bulworth's broadsides aren't nearly as shocking as they're supposed to be
Manages to courageously and seriously address political issues head-on while remaining a funny and entertaining romp.
A liberal call to action -- a satire driven by equal parts disgust and hope.
one of the hardest-hitting and unblinkingly brave political satires to hit American screens since “Dr. Strangelove.”
If the film's plot had been based on Shakespearean literature, the movie still would have been displeasing...
... Bulworth is the product of an interesting engaged intelligence operating at or near peak capacity
sometimes ambitious failures are more interesting to watch than modest successes, and, though "Bulworth" may offend... it's unlikely to bore anyone.
Everyone in the film is a cardboard prop for Beatty to lay it into them with his political clichés.
This film has its heart in the right place, but unfortunately no other parts of its anatomy are.
