Burma VJ would be even more intense without its early announcement that some scenes have been restaged, putting the viewer in a regrettably uncertain relationship to what follows.
Don't you think the majority of the "recreated" scenes are those like when Joshua is talking on his phone from Chiang Mai, where they can artfully show a flower growing outside of a window, etc., or innocuous scenes like that? It's pretty obvious the main scenes that will have people talking are from actual events shot undercover.
