Cannes 2009: Keanu Battles Drug Dealers
Reeves signs up for narco-thriller Cartagena.

Keanu Reeves has signed up to star in an action thriller about the drug trade entitled Cartagena, according to reports coming out of Cannes today.

Described by Screen Daily as a cross between The French Connection and Michael Clayton, the film will be set in Columbia and feature Reeves as an undercover agent who becomes embroiled in a conspiracy involving drug dealers and international agents.

When Cartagena was previously announced in December, Clive Owen was cast in the lead, so today's news suggests he has left the project.

Rupert Wyatt, who directed prison drama The Escapist, will helm the $25m film, with production set to start in September.

The news comes hot-on-the heels of the announcement that Reeves will play Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in a modern-day version of the classic tale, although that project is currently in the early stages of development.

I hope Reeves can finally give us a lil bit of energy on screen..His latest roles have been bland...I wish I could get paid for just staring at the camera and saying, "whoa"....Best Reeves movies were Bill And Ted's, Point Break, and I guess Matrix, but since Matrix, he remains like a stiff block of ice....

His father is Spock and his mother is the White Witch, so naturally he seems a bit sleepish.

How does this guy keep getting work?!?!?!?! Seriously... he has no talent. Who thinks hiring Keanu is a good choice for any role other than Neo?

Computer driven drug dealers in the Matrix? No? Surfing drug dealers? No? Time travelling phonebooth drug dealers? No? Not interested then.

How original. A thriller with a cop fighting drug dealers. My only favorite movies with Keanu are Speed, The Bill and Ted films, and The Matrix.

GRAARRRR!!! Another movie depicting my country as a drug-dealer ridden impoverished town, how original is that! At least have the decency to come here to Cartagena and film it! At least spell ColOmbia (with an O, not an U) right! Darned Rupert Wyatt.
