Cannes 2009: Sharks in a Mall!
Bait to be Australia's first 3-D movie.
by Chris Tilly | May 15, 2009
Discuss Article
We've already had Snakes on a Plane, so why not Sharks in a Mall? That's the premise for a new 3-D action adventure that was announced in Cannes this morning.

Highlander helmer Russell Mulcahy will write and direct the film, which has the most outlandish concept we've heard at the festival thus far.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be set in a coastal town where a freak tsunami floods and traps shoppers in a supermarket with an armed maniac and a pack of hungry tiger sharks that have been washed into the building.

Arclight Films and Limelight are producing, with Arclight's Gary Hamilton saying, "This will be a truly monstrous thriller and the first Australian feature in 3-D."

Bait is set to shoot on the Gold Coast later this year.

lol. why? I don't care, bring it. If it's fun to watch then they did their job.

This movie's only redeeming factor can be Emilio Estevez.

Will it be better than Mega-Shark vs. Giant Octopus?

Ha! I saw that on TV and said..."Did he just say...? No, he couldn't have." I rewound it, and said "Oh my God!!!!!! He said "monkey fighting"!"

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they made that dub ridiculous on purpose.

LOL, this is one of the stupidest concepts I've ever heard. Then again, Mulcahy has been putting out nothing but crap since HIGHLANDER.

As crappy as the film is guaranteed to be, I'm still looking forward it!

HectorMoran, you are what's wrong with cinema. Not you specifically, but this prevailing attitude that even if it's crappy, I can't wait to see it. If people would quit reacting like that and quit seeing these movies, then they would quit making them.

Now, having said that, I can't wait to see this to see how bad it is :-)

No, the question is: will Lorenzo Llamas and Debbie Gibson be co-starring?

I agree with Jeff H. - Nothing will be better than Mega Shark V. Giant Octopus. And by "better," I mean impossibly ridiculous and laughably awful.

Where is Mystery Science Theater 3000 when we need it?

I can't help but laugh with this resurgance in the camp sci-fi genre.

At least I'm not appalled by it.

Netflix says Mega Shark V. Giant Octopus will be out on DVD this coming Tuesday, 5/19/2009

It's a dissapointment I know, I was hoping for the full IMAX experience.

But, I'll watch it Tuesday. The suspense is already killing me.

Who will win? My guess: The Audience.

HAH! I just heard that on the Daily Show with John Stewart a week or 2 ago, I couldn't believe what he said!

Hey, TV stations, stop replacing words with words that don't fit. What ever happened to the standard bleeping of those words? Bring that sound back! I want to watch the sopranos with every other word getting bleeped.

Snakes on a Plane... now Sharks in a Mall! WHAT'S NEXT! STEAKS ON A TRAIN!

I think the Conan O'Brien suggested sequel of Sharks on a Tractor is still the best possible sequel.
