This one will be a night to remember, as the nerds become studs, the jocks are humiliated, and freshman crushes blossom into grown-up romance. Will Preston (Ethan Embry) finally talk to teen queen Amanda (Jennifer Love Hewitt)? Will whiteboy rapper Special K (Seth Green) hook up? Writing/directing team Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS) pay loving tribute to the 1980's teen films they obviously adore, updating the genre for a new generation of young people. Reviews for Can't Hardly Wait
In between these humorous lines is a series of arguments and conversations between characters, which are more flat than those of real life.
A failed attempt to recapture the exuberant magic of such highschool movie classics as American Graffiti, this is a loud and boisterous comedy, in which the entire action is set during an interminably long graduation night.
The title seems unexpectedly appropriate, as it accurately summed up my feelings about sitting in the theater and anticipating the arrival of the end credits -- I couldn't hardly wait.
Most of the film feels a bit trite; too much of it comes off like warmed-over jokes from other teen romp flicks.
The film might have been good if its writer/director duo had concentrated more on characterizations and less on getting cheap laughs.
This is the kind of pointless teen schlock one sees on USA Up All Night.
Manages to serve up new rock, eighties dance music, rap and Barry Manilow -- a combination custom-made to annoy audiences of all ages.
Beyond broad stereotypes and patently obvious social observations, Can't Hardly Wait has very little to offer.
Only one actress, cherubic redheaded Lauren Ambrose, emerges from this movie with any kind of dignity.
