Cars 2 is such a mess, it makes the original look like it ought to rank among Pixar's masterpieces by comparison.
Jun 21 - 05:49 PM
Yikes I really hope Pixar can pull it together to at least get a low fresh rating.
Jun 21 - 06:18 PM
Chris Michael Smith
That's like saying "The Godfather Part III makes The Godfather 1 & 2 look like classics by comparison." Come on, now.
Jun 21 - 06:48 PM
Marco La Manno
If Cars were anywhere near The Godfather, you might have a legitimate comparison.
Jun 21 - 06:54 PM
Yeah cause Godfather 1 and 2 weren't classics all by themselves, they needed a crap third to make it on the list.
Jun 21 - 10:53 PM
Not really, because Cars isn't a classic.
Jun 22 - 10:16 AM
Sure it is.
Jun 22 - 01:01 PM
Jun 22 - 03:56 PM
Jun 22 - 07:37 PM
Well, at least your lack of understanding amuses me. That comparison is terrible
Jun 22 - 12:28 PM
Really?? I think you went with an opinion that 'this movie might be disappointing' & maintained that opinion throughout.Which is a bad thing.Looking at the situation now pixar fans need not get startled when they see atleast 40 more rotten reviews arriving soon.
In Your Dreams
You're implying that her flaw as a reviewer is that she isn't a sociopath?
Jun 22 - 11:45 AM
Christy is usually pretty accurate, but I think it is alright to acknowledge she recently gave Kung Fu Panda 2 a Rotten.
Jun 21 - 08:12 PM
But that was deserved. Kung Fu Panda 2 was nothing special
Jun 21 - 08:59 PM
Agree, KFP2 was ass, just like the first one. Cars 1 was, by far, the worst Pixar movie. This score really doesn't surprise me, though I highly doubt it will remain rotten.
Jun 21 - 09:02 PM
I don't. If it's rotten this early, it's bound to stay rotten. Pixar movies generally start off at 100% and stay there for a while until a (very) few rotten reviews come in. Look at Toy Story 3, last year. It had over 150 reviews and no rottens as far as I can remember.
Jun 22 - 10:18 AM
Yeah, it's at 52 now so you're probably right.
Jun 22 - 01:05 PM
Just realize, even if this movie isn't great that doesn't somehow ruin Pixar's amazing record. They have still created some the greatest films of the past decade.
Jun 21 - 09:32 PM
Yes, yes, yes! As an avid Pixar fan myself, I must say to me and everybody else (just like Tyler has) that even IF this film ends up being the first bad/rotten film Pixar has made (which I don't see happening. 70's is where I predict, in which case it would most certainly not be a "bad" film.) that doesn't change Pixar's absolute STELLAR record. Just look at the amazing masterpieces they have given us over the last decade (please note I am not counting TS and TS2 since they were made in the 90's, so this # would be even higher):
1. Finding Nemo (2003) 98%
2. The Incredibles (2004) 98%
3. Ratatouille (2007) 96%
4. Wall-E (2008) 96%
5. Up (2009) 98%
6. Toy Story 3 (2010) 99%
REALLY? Need I say more? They have given us such astounding films year after year that I think it is kind of cruel, to be honest, for people to be complaining about this film not being amazing. Sorry, everyone, but John Lasseter and his creative team at Pixar are not superhumans. They WILL mess up and make mistakes (eg. mediocre films) every once in a while. I think it's time EVERYONE give them a break.
If that's what this even is. It could be that they are just "taking one for the team" and letting another studio FOR ONCE, just ONCE, have the spotlight instead. This might sound crazy and ridiculous to some, but perhaps they are tired of all the adoration and praise they receive year after year after year and just want some time off. After all, they can always make and give us ANOTHER 6 masterpieces in this next decade, correct?
Conclusion: Pixar's ABSOLUTE BEST...heck, no.
A great animated film...unless my conscience is way off, YES!
Jun 21 - 10:11 PM
You ok there buddy?
That looks like a pretty intense fangasm you had there.
Jun 21 - 10:57 PM
Jun 22 - 12:14 AM
"This might sound crazy and ridiculous." That about sums it up.
Jun 22 - 02:46 AM
You are comparing CARS 2 with most of the others Pixar's films. I think that doesn't make a very strong point here. Even if Pixar has given us so many GOOD movies, that doesn't mean that CARS 2 is one of those. It is (as far I can see from the reviews) a so-so movie. And it shouldn't be "forgiven" for its predecessors quality. That's just mediocre.
Jun 22 - 07:48 PM
Right on my man! Pixar is the best. They can have an off film. Chances are at least 3 or their next 4 films after this will be superb.
Jun 22 - 08:44 PM
55% so far. Ah well, it had to happen sometime. It's better it happen to this than to The Incredibles 2. I'm not quite wishing ill on this movie (which will generate billions more for Disney and Mattel no matter what the final score here is, I'm sure) though it is kind of funny to see some Pixar fans hyperventilating at its current RT rating.
Jun 22 - 05:12 AM
Couldn't agree more. Same goes for Toy Story 3; I'd must rather it be this film to get a rotten than Toy Story 3, I might've had a heart attack if that movie had this rating.
Jun 22 - 10:20 AM
The thought of anything worse than Cars 1 makes me feel like vomiting.
Jun 22 - 05:46 AM
You must have a weak stomach. The fact that people are acting like Cars was a stain on cinema and as if Cars 2 is the worst film ever is laughable.
Jun 22 - 07:21 AM
I agree Gallagher; it's because people rate Pixar films in their own category rather than collectively. If it looks good and is funny, I'll go see it. Not every movie needs to be an emo-animation-exploitation. If I wanna' cry, I'll watch any of the other films of their's.
Jun 22 - 10:06 AM
No I just think cars 1 sucks. Mostly because it's just a long chevron commercial with a stupid plot and stupid unlikeable characters. And now there is a sequel...
Jun 22 - 03:19 PM
No? No what? I'm confused I believe I was talking to Gallagher....
Jun 23 - 01:03 PM
If you want to talk to Gallagher get his phone number and have a private chat. If you want to put your opinion out there for critcism then post here. If you can't handle criticism maybe you should live in a cave
Jun 23 - 05:15 PM
And no means no not everyone is a pixar fanboy. Some people just think cars sucked, and from that they can infer that cars 2 will probably suck more...
Jun 23 - 05:19 PM
I just want to say that one bad movie won't ruin Pixar's reputation. Take Nintendo for an example. They had a system called the Virtual Boy and it didn't sell well, but now their still making systems.
Jun 22 - 08:23 AM
Well, nobody is actually saying that this movie will ruin Pixar, and most people here have the good sense to evaluate this movie as an individual film and not based on the studio's track record. That said, people shouldn't be giving this film a free pass just because it's a Pixar movie, which some people seem to be suggesting.
Jun 22 - 09:07 PM
Why are people wishing ill things of Pixar? I don't give a flying f*** who made the movie, I just want to go see a good movie with my girl this weekend. Like not seeing it is going to put the man down? Dream on and just submit; life's too short to spend it that way.
Anyways, last weekend sucked, and now this one might too? Guess I'll go see Midnight in Paris then... here's to hoping Transformers is a step up for Bay and Spielberg. Gotta' admit, it does look darker and more mature than the last two films.
Jun 22 - 10:04 AM
Looks like Cars 2 just might end up staying rotten. Not the end of the world though. Even the best companies have at least one stinker. Pixar will rebound for sure.
Jun 22 - 10:08 AM
Jun 22 - 10:21 AM
Have you seen the poster for Brave? It looks like a winner!
Jun 22 - 06:29 PM
Like a lot of you, "Cars" is one of the Pixar films I disliked; although to be honest the secret agent theme of this film piqued my interest a little. But a lot of you calling Pixar a "sellout" or hoping Pixar can "make a comeback" following the critics panning are not really getting it.
This movie isn't for you. It's for the racing culture that dominates rural America. They aren't even trying to please you with this particular product. And that's partly what this company does-- sells product with extraordinary success. You just don't happen to be the target audience this time.
Jun 22 - 08:35 PM
And boom goes the dynamite
Jun 22 - 10:31 PM
What are you guys on drugs tomatometer or no meter this is going to be a great hit at theB.O. John lassester knew exactly what he had when this thing was done, is he 100% proud of it prolly not but this is going to be a enjoyable movie. The crtics rotten reviews sound like they had way to many expectations.
Jun 22 - 10:32 PM
Everyone knows Pixar made Cars 2 out of pressure from corporate Disney. It's all about the lucrative franchise, and you can't see little toy Ballooned Houses and easily as you can sell a racing car.
Though if you actually read Lemire's review (which I don't think most of the commentors here have) I wouldn't be surprised if you feel that she might be a little off the beaten path of mainstream perception on this one. Her comment about how Mater caters to middle America reeks of the elitism that I admire secretly, but is toxic and rather insensitive to voice so publically.
