Haggis Confirms Serious Bond 22
by Fred Topel | September 10, 2007
Discuss Article
When Daniel Craig told the Daily Express that the next Bond movie would be funnier, fans assumed the franchise was going back to the Roger Moore days. Screenwriter Paul Haggis cleared up that rumor.

"No, he was joking," said Haggis. "That was humor. No, it's what you saw in Casino Royale, you'll see in this. He has a wicked sense of humor. Everybody went, 'Oh my God' and they latched onto that."

Haggis, who wrote Casino Royale also, has almost completed the first act of his screenplay, which is due in the next few months. "I'm having a great time and I'm on page 22. I'd get to page 23 if you guys just leave me alone for a few hours. It's supposed to start in December. I'm on page 22."

Don't worry, though. Bond always comes in on time. "Oh yeah, of course it will be. I just started this week. It'll be good. I'm really looking forward to it."

Looks like Daniel Craig and Christian Bale should form a dry-witted comedy team.

Maybe Haggis is the one who's joking and it'll be another Moonraker?

Fingers crossed!

I just wanna see what Marc Forster can bring to Bond. After all, he did do Finding Neverland and Stranger Than Fiction, so I have no idea what he's gonna do with Bond.

As long as they bring Sergeant J.W. Pepper back, it's cool with me...

Yes! I love Haggis. He'll do the tone and mood (and everything in between) justice. :)

I trust Haggis with the Bond franchise, and Forster should be interesting. I don't think I've seen two Bonds in a row ever.

What ever they do, they should never try to use some kind of table as a main part of the ending. Casino Royale was great till everybody started playing cards. Table games are very exciting for the players, but they are just very boring for people who are watching.

Hahaha I said it from the very beginning that it was a joke. Perhaps this is Daniel Craig's way of getting all you haters back for not believing in him as a good Bond when he was announced for the role?????

Lets be realistic in here. Craig is definitely not the best looking bond but he is the most realistic looking spy of the whole franchise. After watching so many spies getting busted through the years, there is one thing we have to realize is spies are normal looking who hide their identity and they have to be kind of crazy to take the job their lifes are on the line 24/7. Craig is an actor who has a ver normal looking face and he act psychotic in the right moments and those two qualities just make him the perfect bond for the new generation. I wish the next features more parkour because Royal's parkour scenes are way too chopped up and short.

how is this GOOD news? hasn't every bond had that witty clever line and that smirk? while i like the series still...its not "bond", its more..."bourne" with more explosions. but considering craig OBVIOUSLY isn't funny...i kinda wish they'd gone a different route. again, like the series but...its not really "bond" anymore. its just a decent spy series, but doesn't have the bond charm.
