Has enough character and high-tech hardware to make it watchable, if not much more than that.

Directed by Bart Freundlich, this remake of the Danish film KLATRETØSEN, turns the heist genre on its head in an action-packed combination of SPY KIDS and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. Maddy is a pre-teen adventure lover, determined to follow in her mountain climbing father's (Sam Robards) footsteps. Tragedy strikes when a mountain climbing injury causes him to become paralyzed and the family needs $250,000 for an experimental operation that they cannot afford. Even Maddy's mother (Jennifer Beals), a bank security systems designer, is incapable of receiving a loan from a bank where she had previously worked. Determined to save her father's life by providing the money for the operation, Maddy convinces two of her friends to help her pull off a heist on the very same bank. Together with Gus (Max Thieriot), a computer whiz, and Austin (Corbin Bleu), a mechanical genius, Maddy is ready to take on the bank, its villainous owner (Michael Des Barres) and the seemingly impenetrable bank vault suspended thirty feet in the air. The trio of pre-teens combine their skills and hatch a daredevil heist in this exciting caper led by Maddy, a savvy heroine for a new generation of fearless young women. [More]

Reviews for Catch That Kid
Now that the Spy Kids trilogy has whiz-banged to an end, Fox saw the need to exploit the film’s kiddie superspy chic and “yay family!” message.
The only thing to "catch" in this film is perhaps a cold--from sitting in the theater with the 'tweener set.
Seeks to 'empower' its target audience of recent Pokémon grads with an adult antihero desperation that feels preemptive and inappropriate.
A slick little package that will seem patently ridiculous to anyone past adolescence even as their younger brothers and sisters eat it up.
It basically says that it's okay to put yourself, your friends and your infant brother in mortal danger (not to mention steal a quarter of a million dollars) if your purpose is noble.
Not witty enough to be a comedy and not well-plotted enough to be taken seriously, with flat performances and lackluster direction, it’s a serious yawner
The only surprise is that it doesn't wear out its welcome before it's over.
The young actors are irredeemably bland, and two of the adults are hammy enough to make James Brown seem controlled.
This heist flick is far more likely to drive audiences away than catch and keep anyone's interest in the title kid -- or more accurately, kids.
The movie is painless enough, even if it's never as exciting as it should be.
From first frame to last, Catch That Kid feels like the rehash it is.
Parents can catch a nap while the kids catch a dubious lesson that crime can be cool.
It's a juicy premise, but the enactment is so dumbed-down that you couldn't possibly fault your jaded children for yawning and rolling their eyes.
