Charlie Chan in Rio is a remake of 1931's Black Camel, one of the few pre-1934 "Charlie Chan" entries still in existence. While the original film was set in Hawaii, the remake takes place in Brazil, but the basic intrigues remain the same. While vacation in Rio de Janeiro with his son Jimmy (Victor Sen Yung), Honolulu detective Charlie Chan (Sidney Toler) is asked by the local constabulary to help solve a double homicide. Charlie Chan In Rio is another fun installment in the Charlie Chan series. All of the characters were believable, except for the maid that the number two son had a crush on. Either she couldn't act or her over-dramatization was thrown in as comic relief. I really couldn't tell. Once again I had no idea who did it
April 30, 2010VERY GOOD MURDER MYSTERY. ENJOYABLE. ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT THE CHARLIE CHAN FILMS IS THE HUMOROUS ELEMENTS TO THEM, IT MAKES THEM MORE INTERESTING. NICELY ACTED, GOOD RIO SETTING.
