This western saga finds Jess Wade (Elvis Presley) as a reformed gunfighter who is stalked and captured by his former band of outlaws. Vince (Victor French) is the heavy who orders Jess' cheek to be branded with a hot iron. The gang terrorizes a small town by threatening to use a gold-plated and jewel-encrusted Mexican cannon on the innocent population. Don't blame the King for this bleak routine western being so stiff, he tries his best, blame writer-director Charles Marquis Warren.
this American spaghetti western leaves out the sauce
Still trying to figure out why it was called Charro (other than the song at the begining), but it was a good movie. A little slow at the begining but things pick up shortly there after and I do like scruffy Elvis. It was well acted and seeing as it is a western the fact that I liked it says a lot.
June 2, 2009This was the only film Elvis ever starred in without music. As with his first it is a western but hampered by some terrible dialog. Solomon Sturges gives a good performance as the outlaw leaders deranged brother. Elvis is okay in the title role but his portrayal lacks any real danger or menace. I'd give him an A for
