So how does this work? Do they just consider every animated film that comes out during the year? Because based on the reviews and lackluster returns, I'm kinda confused on why Valiant is even being considered. Anyone agree here?

Don't be so sure. One of Miyasaki's (sp?) other films, Spirited Away, won a couple of years back.
But yeah, Wallace and Gromit will probably win, anyway, because it was so awesome.
