Critic Review - SFX Magazine

There's no compelling reason for Chronicle to be a found-footage movie. Indeed, for long passages, as an omniscient camera swoops around, free of any apparent operator, you might forget that it even is one.

Don't know if you were actually watching the movie but the boy who owns the camera is literally a telekinetic superhero.

I'm not a fan of "found footage" type movies. The genre name itself doesnt necessarily describe most of the movies in the genre accurately. There was nothing "found" about the footage. There are way too many PA knock offs running around. And those movies were awful. Yet i see this movie being criticized for being a documentary style flick. If any movie could justify this "found footage" style i would hope chronicle would be one of them. It's fitting considering that the movie was released in 3D. I believe thats what the critics are missing in their critiques of this movie. It was directed with that in mind. If he actually watched it in 3D he would find "compelling reason" for it to be shot this way. It actually was enjoyable in 3D and I typically HATE 3D.
