Picture Gallery of the Week: Alice in Wonderland

I'm not super thrilled with how the movie looks (looks like an opium den throwing up), but Disney has been churning out screenshots at clockwork, which does keep my attention at least. The latest stack of pictures has some a nice surprise: some great sketches by Tim Burton, who decades back worked at Disney as an animator. Browse the gallery.

Poster of the Week: Despicable Me

From the past few trailers and posters, I don't know where the marketing's trying to go with this movie. Spy vs Spy throwback comedy, or is it reaching for modern humor, broad, with snark and pop culture? The latest ads play up cute, showing off crowds of these little guys a bit inspired by the Mega Man universe Servbots. View the poster.

Video of the Week: Toy Story 3 trailer

That's what I love about Pixar trailers: I get older, they stay just as lousy. Slightly off, a little worrying. Did they really just reveal the whole movie? Another "going home" plot? Is Woody ever going to cheer the hell up? But that's what I love about Pixar movies: I get older, they get better and better. Watch the videos.

Toy Story... meh. Fine for kids. I have no idea why adults get excited for this franchise though. Grow up.

Wow. Toy Story is awesome. Much, much better than The Dark Knight, in my opinion. That movie is extremely overrated. I mean, I wouldn't have come down so hard, but it ticks me off when someone acts like Toy Story is just for kids. Grow up? Puh-lease.

Plus Batman was made for kids as well.

pagiliacci, ure an idiot. y do u think toy story has a 100% tomato meter. its cuz its an amazing film for all ages. it has a hint of everything to make a perfect film: drama, action, and comedy and so kids would watch it: animation.
pixar films are pretty much adult films disguised as a kids film. the biggest example wuld be pixars "UP". so i think u need to grow up and realize the true potential of these films. but ure probably someone who just wants gore, kik *** action and nudity in films. u need to realize the true potential of these films.

I'm more impressed that someone with Joker as his pic is telling others to grow up...talk about childish letting others tell you to like something.

Aint excited about Alice in Wonderland at all after seeing what Tim Burton did with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, pass on that. Titans and Shutter Island look the goods.

The trailer of The Last Airbender looks really good,Toy Story 3 looks funny, and the poster of Clash of the Titans is kick-***

Love the Totoro cameo in the Toy Story 3 trailer (Miyazaki references are now in Pixar).

Pagliacci, Toy Story is more fun and enjoyable to watch as an adult than a kid, you get all the adult references you missed when watching as a kid. I thought you knew about it having a Joker pic and all, Batman was made for kids after all.

"Toy Story... meh."

The worm is on the hook.

"Fine for kids. I have no idea why adults get excited for this franchise though."

The line is cast.

"Grow up."

Aaaaand wait for a bite.

Mostly a lot of crap, but hey, "Toy Story 3". Although I have worries, I know better than to doubt Pixar.

"Crazies" is a god-awful title.

"Alice and Wonderland" looks a little too weird. Like Tim Burton is trying to out-quirk himself.

Dave J.

Dave J. on 02-12-2010 02:59 PM

I liked the Toy Story films, the second better than the first but I think I'm going to reserve judgement on the third!!!

martinscorsese25

martinscorsese25 on 02-12-2010 04:08 PM

hopefully, The Last Airbender ressurects M Night Shamalayans love for good storytelling.

also, Toy Story 3 seems to be full of great gags, but what i'm looking forward to is something utterly surprising again that only Pixar can inventively do.

like let's say, in Ratatouille, that speech by Anton Ego came out of nowhere, i wasnt expecting such a deep speech in an animated film.

in WALL-E. i didn't expect to be hooked with a narative that is poignant and sweet, all with minimal use of dialouge.

and in UP, the opening montage of Carl and Elie's Marriage is as beautiful as any montage i've ever seen.

and let's hope that Toy Story 3 doesnt end up like UP where brilliant opening scenes for adults and kids, and slowly turns into a movie only for KIDS. that's why i think UP is below the Pixar greats such as WALL E, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo and Ratatouille.

Alexson Philip

Alexson Philip on 02-12-2010 05:00 PM

and martin sorcorosee..THANK YOU. my thoughts are exactly the same for UP.

Mr. Dufresne

Mr. Dufresne on 02-14-2010 08:39 PM

Personally, I liked UP more than WALL-E. I enjoyed WALL-E a lot, but for some reason UP left me more emotionally satisfied.

Your dumb sir ..
" THe Craizes is a god awful title" ..
..
If you didn't know ... which you should ..
the The Crazies is a remake...
..
A remake that was needed very much so.

Playboy Slim

Playboy Slim on 02-12-2010 05:15 PM

So, that makes the title better, how? Title still sucks, it's being a remakes makes no difference.

Ashron

Ashron on 02-12-2010 04:43 PM

Ledawg, I'm going to say it a little more politely than Omar S, but he is correct. The Crazies is a remake of a pretty bad film (although the story is a decent one) I have some high hopes for this one since I really like Timothy Olyphant.

Alexson Philip

Alexson Philip on 02-12-2010 04:58 PM

ppl crazies is either gonna do really bad or do ok, chek the directors previous projects. theyre not so great.

Pagliacci

Pagliacci on 02-12-2010 05:32 PM

Hey enjoy your Toy Stories, folks. I like the slap at Dark Knight from the Tim Robbins fan, who I defended the other day, though let's be honest, Robbins is a nutty leftwing extremist. I'm sorry if I like emotionally mature films. But hey, you can have your Toy Stories, and your fun Randy Newman music.

I won't judge you....

saicam

saicam on 02-12-2010 10:24 PM

Just because Toy Story doesn't have people dying throughout the whole film doesn't mean there's no emotionally mature content in the film...

Pagliacci

Pagliacci on 02-12-2010 05:36 PM

Really, so a lot of you think The Dark Knight was for kids, huh?

So was it the scene when Joker makes Batman choose which of his friends should not get incinerated, or was it the scene when he murdered a mob boss, slicing from mouth to throat?

How about the moral dilemma he presented whereby, two boats have the detonation devices to each other. One is full of criminals. The other is full of "decent people." Was that really kiddie material?

August M.

August M. on 02-12-2010 06:34 PM

WB made toys for the Dark Knight and had a rating of PG-13, so yes!

Besides, WE ALL SAID BATMAN IN GENERAL.

Alexson Philip

Alexson Philip on 02-12-2010 06:55 PM

august m dark knight was rated 14 A

August M.

August M. on 02-12-2010 08:35 PM

So, last time I check, 14 is considered to be a kid.

Mr. Dufresne

Mr. Dufresne on 02-12-2010 08:36 PM

That was the suckiest part of the movie, part of the reason why The Dark Knight is ridiculously overrated. And come on, I'm not trying to hate on Heath Ledger, but what was so great about his Joker performance. "Why so serious?" "Let me show you how I got these scars." I mean, seriously? All he did was change his voice, have his face painted, and lick his lips the whole time. I mean, it was okay, but I think both Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are better movies. Period.

Patrick

Patrick on 02-12-2010 06:16 PM

Toy Story and Batman are both made for a wide variety of audiences. Batman, however, does it differently as it has titles, movies, cartoons, etc. that are geared more toward one demographic. You can't say Batman is made for kids because then you can look at something that is darker like Dark Knight. You can't say it's just for adults because then someone can throw out the Brave & Bold cartoon. It's an all ages affair. Toy Story has to put it all in one basket.

ChrisCinephile on 02-12-2010 06:17 PM

is it just me or does anyone else thinks The Crazies is a dumber and more universal version of Cabin Fever?

Before anyone thinks about making fun at my stamement i know The Crazies is a remake
