Reviews for Clay Pigeons
Vince Vaughn could make a career out of playing psychos and womanizers -- I wouldn't mind.
For all its artful plot turns and camera angles, the film is most interesting when it eases up on such techniques and observes the interactions among these principals, along with Scott Wilson as ultra-low-key Sheriff Mooney.
You can do a lot with black comedy: show dead bodies, show naked bodies, juxtapose irony and fear, strike cultural poses, tell jokes -- and you don't need a big budget. You just need attitude. And, hopefully, skill.
This quirky comedy thriller, produced by Ridley Scott, is both blackly funny and, at times, tensely disturbing and quite macabre.
Lifted from being just average by strong acting and an amusing script, this is a good bet if you're looking for something offbeat.
No gutter humor here, just a veritable country-and-western serial murder comedy. Yeehaw!
You love everybody you are supposed to love, and hate everybody you are supposed to hate. And Healy flips you back and forth on that for some characters.
Best of all is Vince Vaughn, who worked together with Mr. Phoenix in a more forthright role in Return to Paradise, and who shows his depth in a wholly distinct performance.
The darkly comedic melodrama is well-acted and entertaining, though a bit pale compared to some illustrious predecessors.
This is not your classic whodunit. It's blacker, funnier, and edgier.
Vince Vaughn pulls off another dynamic performance as Lester the self-proclaimed "molester," and spices his character up with one of the honkiest laughs this side of Fran Drescher.
Actually brings a clean, new and very funny edge to the weathered genre of crime and sleaze.
The boyishly braying laugh Vaughn punctuates his conversations with is a true actor's finesse on his character.
