Beckinsale Nixes Wonder Woman & Underworld 3
by Scott Weinberg | May 19, 2006
Discuss Article
MTV sat down with the lovely Ms. Kate Beckinsale to discuss her work in Adam Sandler's upcoming "Click" comedy, but a few extra tidbits were dropped regarding "Wonder Woman" and "Underworld 3," so if you're a fan of the gal....

Unfortunately it looks like both projects will be moving ahead sans Katie B.

From MTV: "It's been nearly a year since rumors surfaced that Beckinsale would star in Joss Whedon's "Wonder Woman" movie, and the actress is still having to answer to it.

I get texted from friends all around the world saying, 'That's so awesome! I'm so happy for you. That's so great,' and I have to just text them and say, 'It's actually not true,' " Beckinsale said. "I think I've embarrassed my daughter quite enough."

Actually, there's a more honest reason beyond wardrobe: A superhero movie is not what Beckinsale wants to do next. Beckinsale also revealed she will not star in the next "Underworld" movie, which husband Len Wiseman is developing.

"I think it's a prequel before I'm actually in it, so I think that won't include me if it happens," she said."

Bakesale's Muffins
What is she up to? Another drab rom-com or "serious" drama? How "Wonderful." Don't let Charisma don the star-spangled undies! On second thought...

Good move, after all, Kate Bekinsale is SOOOO Oscar material...

If being a sex object for teen-age action fans is what works, stick with it, your daughter will understand. If not there's always cocaine and sports cars.

Didn't she say she THINKS it will be a prequel, which therefore would not include her character. Doesn't exactly sound like fact to me. Personally, I think Sony might have a problem greenlighting an Underworld project that did not include Kate. Guess we'll see.

As for Wonder Woman, to my knowledge, she has never publicly expressed interest in doing the part and Joss Whedon has never indicated she was even in contention. This seems to have been born on the internet and has gained an entire life there.

I know it's hard to believe but she actually did have a career doing different kinds of movies before Underworld. I, for one, am very much looking forward to seeing "Snow Angels". As for "Click", let's just say it will be the first Adam Sandler movie I will have paid to see.

We'll i'm a little sad to hear that. While I don't think Underworld 2 was as good as the first one I felt like she made the movie watchable. And I can think of better people to play Wonder woman, but I wouldn't have had any complaints about her doing the role.

Underworld 3 without Kate? That just sounds wrong. I don't think it will do well at all.

That sucks, Kate was the best thing about Underworld, I doubt a prequel without her can even match the dismal revenues that the other two made. As for Wonder Woman I would have liked to see Kate in that film, but only if it was good and I just have this feeling that a Wonder Woman film will really suck so better safe than sorry, my vote is for Charisma Carpenter then.

There is only one person for Wonder Woman: Morena Baccarin. She's Brazilian to boot too.

Beckinsale deserves better.
Beckinsale is a great actress. She shouldn't be wasting her talent on superhero movies posing with firearms. One or two is enough, but three and you're typecast.

If she does too many of those it will ruin her career.

Uma Thurman should also end her fighting history with Kill Bill (which was one of the best movies of this decade), and do more indies. Maybe some more Woody Allen films. Uma will always be The Bride to me though.

I remember when the "Aviator" came out, she said that if you cant act well in a Scorcese film you shouldnt be an actor, well since most critics and regular people that I know said she was wooden and awful as Gardenar, I think it's time for her to live up to that statement.

She sucks, but Click looks like a return to classic Sandler- I mean that in a good way.

How do you make an Underworld w/out Selene?
Isn't that kinda like Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford? It makes no sense.

As far as I'm concerned, Underworld and Evolution are Selene's story, or at least the portrayal of events between the lycans and vampires with her personal involvement as the main PoV.

Also, the end of Evolution definitely leaves an opening for another movie, a continuation of the story.

I really hope Len Wiseman keeps her as part of it in some way. Or that, in addition to another prequel, he gets a greenlight and decides to do another sequel continuing with the story of Selene/Michael and what they face now that Markus, Viktor and Alexander have been destroyed. I mean, Selene is now this Vampire/Human++ thanks to the blood from Alexander. Michael has died or come close to it 3 times so far between two movies and jumped back each time.

I hope there's more to it than what Kate's saying.
