Gombo has been living peacefully with his family living the way his ancestors have been for generations. When Sergei drives his truck into the local lake, Gombo helps him get his truck out, and accompanies him to the city where he's never been. His mission is to buy a television set, and some condoms, which his wife asks him for. A friendship develops and Gombo learns that progress in the modern world may not be all it's cracked up to be. Reviews for Close to Eden
Interesting slice of life film about a family of Mongolians trying to live their traditional life in spite of Communist edicts.
The kind of movie that has no reason for existence, except to keep the viewer bemused. It does that with such sly charm that when it's over, you don't even think to ask why it was made. You're simply pleased that it was.
