Summary

J.J. Abrams has established himself as something of a trailblazer for viral ads, littering the Web with various Lost-related content, and he's using the same tactics to create buzz for his next film production -- so much buzz, in fact, that the thing doesn't even have an official title yet, and that's news, as Slashfilm's Peter Sciretta recently learned firsthand. The cost of registering a trademark is negligible compared to the cost of making a movie of the kind the ads and trailers have indicated this movie is. The name sounds like another red herring, another cover, a distraction with a low price tag.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but "Overnight" seems like an anticlimactic title for what we've been shown thus far.

I think it should be "Headslasher" or "Erradicator of Liberty." Hell, I'd even go for "Miss Liberty Loses Her Lid." But we'll probably come to appreciate "Overnight" as the release date draws closer.

if this is the movie i saw a preview for a few times already...it looks pretty sweet. BUUUUUT...the camera gives me an Fing headache. i'm all for the coolness of "dude, dude this is happening in real life!" type of cinematography but the shaking...phew, too much. it reminds me of really crappy amateur porn. Overnight sounds dumb. like its a sequel to Castaway or some romantic comedy about a guy who sends something in the mail to a girl he loves. don't really care about titles anyway but if that preview is any indication...this should be pretty coo.

I think Gimy meant F-uck-ing headache, and I agree. The jumpy shaky hand-held camera thing also makes me dizzy and slightly nauseous.

I think they should call this film "Escape from New York VII: Electric Boogaloo."

yes, i did mean F3cking. its just easier to get it across without being censored to say Fing. now ya know!

i hope the entire movie isn't shaky though, i was in the first 2 rows of the theater watching that preview and while the effects were sweet...the shaky camera stuff was horrible.

i got a title. "Shhhhhh...It Happened". they play it all coy with this mystery garbage, and won't give us a title. hence the "shhhhhhh", like the thing is a secret and you're whisperin'. "it happened" just plays off the obviousness of people telling this story, watching THIS video, AFTER the incident. but really, the obvious is "sh3t happened". i think its catchy...if "bigger longer and uncut" can roll, why can't Shhhhh...It Happened???

I also think Cloverfield was a good name. Now Jeff concerning montsers; on a recent business trip to Tokyo, I heard rumours that Toho was very impressed with Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong and would like Jackson to develop and direct a remake of Gojira as part of a Godzilla trilogy with the understanding that Jackson's Godzilla must look and sound like the orginal. Has RT heard this wicked rumour?

I'm really confused as to why anybody thinks this movie would be good. I mean, I guess if you're a fan of Lost or Alias or something you could get excited... To me, it just looks like Blair Witch with a few effects, annoying anti-cinematography and a cast of B film television actors. Just the sheer gimmickry of the advertising campaign makes me sure that there is nothing special about the film. It's just an elaborate way to build an inordinate amount of hype for a 30mil-ish budget quasi-monster film. Sure, it may end up being novel and cool, but this advertising campaign hardly gives any indication of that.

I feel the Title is Obviously left out to keep everyone talking and excited about the movie, and its working. I believe that this moster is not going to Cthulu, most definetly NOT Godzilla but something completly original and perhaps another reason why there is no title is because the director still has not come up with a name to call his mystery monster.

I read that the "monster" in Overnight is CTHULHU. A kind of giant octopus/jellyfish creature with lots of tenticles. Could be wrong. Supposed to be very evil and scary. Plenty of images on Google. Check it out.

Thats not true. The monster is supposedly unique, nothing we have seen before. I heard that in an interview, pretty sure it was someone whos working on it. Plus all these theories have come from pure speculation about something we have no clue on, what are the chances that one of the random ideas we have come up with about a trailer that reveals almost nothing is actually correct?

Saw the trailer for the first time (watching Death Proof). Looks okay. Thought it might be a dodgy Volcano movie but looks like it might be something more interesting. Not sure which I'm looking forward to more: 20080118 or I am Legend or Get Smart.
